Hi All,

i was referred here after being on the health board for a few weeks. I am fostering Luna and she's been with me for just over two weeks now. We had a bit of a rocky start, but she seems to be leveling off, just that her numbers are a bit too high.

prior to my house, i understand she was on 1u Lantus x2/day but there was minimal data on the contour usb so not sure how regulated she was before. she's on a skinny .5 at the moment and i'm wondering if i should leave her be for a bit since the changes, or maybe go to a fat .5? I am feeding Evo and giving boiled chicken or freeze dried chicken for treats. I can test a bit more than usual this week because i'm off from work, but monday i go back to the office and can't do a mid cycle test during the work day, but can do some at 11pm. our dosing is at 5 and 5. what did i forget?

she is otherwise appearing happy/healthy and playful, starting to slowly introduce her to my two existing cats. feedback is welcome!

thanks all!
Jen n Luna

Hi Jen,

She is cute!! (Folks, Luna is a DCIN foster cat, and is available for adoption.)

Is that Evo wet or Evo dry she's eating?

A flat curve usually means that the dose isn't high enough. "Technically," you are to wait 6 cycles on a dose before raising. You were dose-hopping a lot in the beginning, and to avoid that coming into play again, why don't you keep the skinny .5 through tomorrow's AM shot, then raise her a quarter unit tomorrow evening.

You are doing great Jen!!

Hi Jen -

First & foremost... Thank you SO MUCH for fostering Luna!! :YMHUG: She looks so much like my Frisky (curled up in my lap as we speak).

"happy/healthy and playful" is fantastic!

Are you feeding Evo wet or dry?

It looks like she's moving in the right direction on the skinny .5u. I'd be inclined to hold steady for a couple more days and see how she settles into it. She's had some big drops along the way. So maybe try .5u next, rather than going from skinny to fat. That would be easier to measure too if you're using syringes with 1/2u markings. ;-)

Thanks guys!

she is getting Evo wet food. (i know, that would have made it easy, huh?)

she's getting more frequent meals during the day this week since i'm home which won't happen next week so thought that might have something to do with a lack of curve in the curve, but then was hoping it meant stability too. we'll get there though.

will go with one more skinny .5 and then to the .5 in the evening? fat .5? so i can check her at night.

thanks again, it's nice to have support!!!

That type of information is very helpful! Knowing that she's eating often will help people make sense of the numbers. Likewise, next week if she isn't eating as often, it helps knowing that too. Continue to keep filling up that "comments" section with good information.
You and Luna are doing really well so far.

Glad to see you here!

What a little cutie pie!!! Thank you for fostering her. Is there a potential adoption for her into your family...? Just asking.

isn't she cute!

the husband and i agreed to stick with our two for a while. my other thinking was that if i kept Luna, i wouldn't have room to foster anyone else!

if you need more pictures of cuteness and you're bored or know anyone interested in adopting feel free to forward these

Maybe you can give me some guidance on taking awesome pictures of dark cats. Nellie (dark gray) and Jackson (black) feel under-appreciated because of the lack of photos of them.

OH NO!!!! we can't have that!!!!

i usually just wait til the sun is on them and then take a million with the digital. if i take 50 pics, i might get 2 i like and delete the rest (or not, or course)

it helps to have a digital camera that does not use those annoying laser beam focus thingy's, then they get distracted by the light just the second you wanna snap the picture.
i also keep a camera at least around me all the time, just in case, it's just fun.
i have found though that it's sometimes good to have an assistant. have someone play with them while you focus on the pictures. i have a second video for you that's uploading but.... a. i learned that i definitely can't play with her and shoot a video at the same time...it's harder than shooting a camera yourself. and b. don't shoot the video of a cat playing AFTER they've had catnip. she's not at all in her best playful form in the second video!!!!
i like putting the camera on the floor, or somehow lower than they are (looking up at them while they are laying on a table or the stairs)
hold the camera slightly off angle on purpose.

plan a little play session when the sun is coming through, have a good blanket down (a light color one, not too 'busy') or something else for mood or to cover up the last hairball spot on the rug, some dreamy curtains.... and just take a TON of pics. a few will be great, some can be cropped or lightened into greatness!!!! if you are going to make the picture really small, like for putting into these notes here, make sure to lighten them, it's harder to see the dark on dark in a smaller pic

and then send me some pics!!!! :)

I have to laugh because every time I take the camera out my CH kitty Lilly Grace strikes a pose, she tilts her head to the side, I call it "doing the owl." She knows the camera phone and regular camera and always does this. I'd like a picture without the pose, to do that I wait for her to fall asleep

you need to send me one of those!!! everyone needs their "blue steel". :)

Hi! Luna is a cutie. I miss my black boys, Strider and Cleteus. Strider we had for over 20 years, he succumbed to CRF and Cleteus went out one morning and never returned. I fear someone trapped or shot him. Some of our neighbors aren't the nicest. I have tons of photos of my black cats. I'll have to put some up.
