Hi, This is Rebeka with Shadow from Melbourne, Australia. I have just learnt how to do all the techno stuff with wonderful help from Chris Ronkoski! I adopted Shadow a month ago from RSPCA, then learnt he has Diabetes. So learning to care for him with help from this group. Have a home-test monitor (human). Having "fun" testing him, but he still loves me. Only started Optisulin Fri Night. On 3U as per Vet, but I reduced to 0.5U on help from group & my own preference. Thankyou everyone for your patience. xxx

Yeah!! Great to see you over here from the Facebook group Rebeka!!!

A couple of our "late night" people are @Bron and Sheba (GA) (also from Australia) and @Bandit's Mom (who's actually Bhooma from the group and she's in India) so if it's daytime there and late night in the US, those are two people you can "tag" for help.

Fantastic job on getting your Signature set up too!! You're going to be a pro in no time!

Here's the 2 dosing methods I told you about if you haven't already read about them. You don't need to make a decision right now, but think about which one would work best for you.

TR gives the best chance at remission because you can increase the dose as often as every 3 days if the current dose isn't getting the results you want but it requires that Shadow be eating canned or raw food only (no kibble) and it requires more frequent testing. The minimum is the 2 Pre-Shots and at least 1 mid-cycle on the AM cycle and at least 1 "before bed" test on the PM cycle but if you can get more tests, that's even better since the more data you have, the better! Reductions in dose are "earned" when he drops below 2.8

SLGS has you hold the dose for 7 days and then run a curve (testing every 2 hours for 12 hours or every 3 hours for 18 hours) before deciding on a dose increase. You still have to always test the Pre-shots and it's always a good idea to get at least a "before bed" test because most cats go lower at night so you want to make sure Shadow is doing OK before you go to sleep. Reductions in dose are earned if he drops below 5.
The bad part?....it means leaving him in higher numbers for a longer period of time before increasing.

TR is definitely more aggressive but there's also nothing wrong with SLGS if that feels better for you. You're not "locked in"...if you want to try TR but find it's not for you, you can switch to SLGS and vise versa.

Again, welcome to the best place you never wanted to be!!
