Hi.. I’m Julia and my cat is Fiona. Fiona was diagnosed on July 14, 23. We are using glargine 2x a day. I’ve been getting help in the Facebook group and just set up my account here a couple days ago. Fiona is doing good so far. Switched her to all wet food FF and friskies from what she was on (KD dry which was recommended by my vet). I think that is why she has diabetes now truthfully. My vet does not seem to be too knowledgeable on the subject of diabetes, so I’m so happy I found this forum and the facebook group. Fiona’s SS is https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1E2bEt-LQyfY4ukGuijiBQPU1QIDyfcnjEQEakxFs44M/edit
Thank you for any advice.

Welcome and you’re doing great already!

Are you following SLGS? Her numbers are looking great for a newly diagnosed cat :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Let us know if you have any questions!

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Looks like you are following SLGS looking at your signature so I would reduce the dose to a drop.
To get a drop, you push the plunger right in, stick it into the insulin bottle and then let go. There should be a drop in there. I would try it a few times first before you give it.
I would retest anything under 100 with the ReliOn meter to see how accurate it is. We don't want you reducing the dose or going off insulin if the libre is giving false readings, which it can do when under 100.
Another thing I would do, to see if you can get the preshot BGs down, is to feed a snack at +9 in both the cycles. The theory behind this is...if the pancreas is producing some insulin, it should drop the BG when you give food. Can you write either in the remarks column of the SS or in the actual SS when you give the snacks please?.

I use the libre for spot checking but all numbers on my SS are Relion meter. I notice the libre reads about 20 numbers lower. I did a DD the other day and noticed the numbers going up, so I went back up to .01 unit. So tomorrow morning I should start the DD?
I’m using the pen so I’m not even sure if I did the syringe correctly with the DD. When I test, it should equal a single drop correct?

It’s possible to go into remission with SLGS correct?
Yes, it’s possible, but TR gives a better chance, because you can increase the dose more quickly.
However you are almost there so I don’t think you need to worry.
If you swapped to TR now, you could stay with the same dose and it might give you a stronger remission, as you reduce under 50 not 90.
No dry food allowed though.

My foster Xuxa was like that. Still is, I get to pet sit for her when her adopted parents travel since they live across the street from me. If you were in Los Angeles, I’d be over in a second lol!
