Hello all!

I am here a-lurking a-plenty! Just wanted to pop on and say HI! .....and just put it out there that Sir Herman has thrown a couple blues in the last few days and if/when I should be concerned about a possible fall out of remission.

Two days ago Herman posted a 113 - and the reason I tested him in the first place was that he was extra sleepy it seemed and was also a bit sneezy. (He does have a history of Feline Herpes Virus flare ups - especially in the spring - maybe allergies?)

....Prior to his sneezy/sleepy day and the subsequent test at 113 Herman had an especially active and exciting day as he had found a nest of bunnies (3 dead ), caught a bird, and delivered to me a mouse. He was a bit nauseous and was eating more grass than usual and I have to assume he ate a portion of his capture. :arghh:

He seems more normal today and gave me a 103.

Herman is EXTREMELY active and busy in in the spring (and summer but in the heat he slows down). Do we ever see seasonal changes in BG?

I will continue to test a little more frequently to keep ahead of things - but what numbers would we start to consider going back on the juice?

Thanks,
Amy
(PS Herman eats Fancy Feast Pate's - he eats alot - always has - and pretty much eats all day long - I top up his food alot and if I go out I make sure he has a fair bit in his dish - he is not overweight and is by far the most active cat on the farm)

You are doing everything right. Try and get a test 3-4 hours after you know he ate to see if the BG comes down if you get a test over 99 and a few extra tests is a good idea. It could very well have gone up a tad from his escapades. Teeth look good?

Thanks for this...Yes teeth look good from what I can tell. Ill remove his food after a good meal and test him 3-4 hours after as suggested. If he is sleeping or outside he wont notice - otherwise he is very offended by an empty food dish  lol

“A-hunting we will go, a-hunting we will go … “ :cat: What a good boy, finding all those delicious tiny critters and saving a special one just for you! So glad my buddy Herm is cleaning his plate and keeping busy between feedings. Hope all is well with you and DH and the horses too! :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Thanks Karen - all good here, thanks! On the horsey front I recently got the opportunity to grab a couple rides a week on a former prix-st-georges level dressage horse...yesterday we started working on tempi changes - I am doing movements that I never dreamed I would - very exciting and fun :woot:

Back to green at +5 :D - still a bit higher than he was just after going OTJ so I will keep a careful eye! And I guess using the "+5" for a time marker doesn't make too much sense... try to be consistent though.

Tempi changes, that’s swimming toward the deep end of the pool! I once heard a metaphor that dressage training is like you and the horse are doing a jigsaw puzzle together, but only you can see the picture on the box. A few lessons on a good schoolmaster can be a game-changer. Keep up the good work!!:joyful::joyful:

Glad to see this update and news of numbers sliding down to normal. I was thinking of you and Herman while brushing Chispa last night -- all that lovely spring fur coming out all over the place -- and wondering, is this Herman's "pinhead" season?? I would love to see a picture if so!! :bighug::joyful:

Hi! Yes, numbers seemed to have slid back to normal, I do think the sneezies and bunny eating can raise his numbers. Overall he’s doing really fantastic. Thanks. Hope you are doing well :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

I always loved the mental image of him with a pin head, too! I thought the one of him in @Amy & Herman profile pic was in the summer? He looks so much more slender than the winter photos.
