? Here we go again Bootsie AMPS 313, now down to 110, 130

It helps if you can tell us in the subject line, or text, at what point in the cycle the 110 was. That's a nice number for a nadir which looks like it was +6.

We don't change dosing based on preshot values, but rather the nadirs. As for "what is going on", maybe you''re getting close to a good dose. I'd like to see a little less pink though.

Ok Wendy. Thanks.

I’m thinking she will be up some at PMPS time since she usually does have the traditional Basaglar curve with a mid-cycle nadir. I think she’s okay, Jackie. How is she acting? And eating? Playing or purring? Being happy?

Well, I kept checking for her pmps, but it’s after midnight here and I will go to sleep now. I hope to see tomorrow she’s doing. I’m rooting for her. Hang in there, Jackie.

Suzanne - sorry I did not reply. I went to bed after her shot since I knew I would be up in the might. And I did not do a PMPS because I have stuck her so much the last couple of days and she had eaten well and was alert and sitting with us, so I felt her sugar would be higher than the 194 I had gotten at 7pm. She acts happy but sleeps a lot. And also her back legs are giving her a little trouble, sort of unstable or weak. I had been giving the med people recommended but then she would not eat the food so I stopped but started again today..we will see how today goes.

Any AMPS today?

And yes, I used to give the Zobaline as a pill … it’s a very tiny pill and really can help if the cause is diabetic neuropathy. When was the last time she had labs done?

Yes - I put it in the wrong place - it was 258 because she ate at 630 when she got up. I did not check her before she ate.
She has not had labs in about 6 months.
And is Zobaline the same as Methylcobalamin??? If it is mine is a capsule that I sprinkle on her food.

I appreciate your advice Suzanne. Thanks

Yes. It's methylcobalamin with some folic acid also. I think the most important thing is the B-12. But I never put powder on food before, just the tiny tablets of Zobaline. I think I was afraid he'd stop eating if I added stuff to his food.

I am lucky since she usually eats very well. And I do add a tsp of warm water occcassionally which will help with the B-12 powder. I am curious to see how she is later, I gave her insulin at 830 so will check her between 1330-1430 - that is about when her nadir is.

Yes Suzanne - I am central time. And yes pretty flat but she was begging for food at 2PM and just would not quit. She ended up eating 1/2 a can of Friskies Pate so who knows what it will be later for the PMPS. Gets her insulin at 830, 930 by you.

Well Friskies pate is a good choice and it’s not like it was close to PMPS so shouldn’t mess up anything there. If it was after her nadir then it may shorten the duration of the insulin. But every cat is different.

What’s her usual feeding schedule like? I don’t know if you are at home with her most of the time, but when I look at her spreadsheet and see some of those big drops that she’s made between AMPS and +3, I am thinking that you should consider feeding her a tsp. or so of low carb food each hour or at least starting at +2 — to help smooth things out a bit. You could actually do this up until her nadir time if necessary. It would be small amounts of food.

Boots usually get me up about 6 and eats between 6 and 630, which is when I usually do her AMPS and her insulin. She will then sometimes stay on the counter (which is where she always eats) and wait for more food or sometimes come and sit by me while I read. She almost always will want more food by 8am. So once she has eaten about 1/2 can of Friskies she seems ok until about 10 or 11, so a usually give her about 1 Tbsp more. And then try to test her about between 12 and 1PM. Then she is usually pretty content to sleep the afternoon away until about 4, then she is on the counter begging again. I do give her a little then also but really try to make her wait until 6 for her bigger portion and give her insulin again at 630.
Of course she is totally off schedule because of Wednesday when she dropped to 84 and we were afraid to give her any insulin until we knew her BS was rising. So now we are getting back to the regular times moving 30 minutes every day
I am a retired nurse and so is my husband so we can watch her pretty closely.

Have you ever fed her a medium carb food before? Have you been able to figure put of she hers much of a food bump in BG from carbs? I’m sorry for so many questions. I’m just trying to figure some things out.

I really like Levemir for the flatter curves it gives.

No worry about the questions. I am happy for advice. I have not been able to figure out how much food bumps her up. I feed either Friskies Pate or Fancy Feast Classic Pate
I have heard that Levemir does help but I just got 10 pens of Lantus from folks selling in the supply closet so I need to use that up. Do I need to talk to the vet before I would switch to Levemir. I do have a friend who has some left from her late husband and told me to let her know if I wanted it.

She is actually very very good about testing - even though I feel sorry for all the tests. She does not cry or get angry. And I don’t give treats for testing - just some petting and snuggles - she usually purrs quite loudly after.

Her PMPS is 320.

A couple things. First, we try to test, then feed, then give insulin. All can be done in 10-15 minutes. You want to make sure you have tested an non food influenced number and know it's OK to shoot. It's OK to give freeze treats at test time so they don't chew your arm off. :p

Second, on this forum we ask that each new day you post that you start a new post with a link to the previous post. This forum has enough people/cats posting that it's hard enough keeping track of current posts, much less old ones that might also have new stuff in it. The new post guidelines also helps keep posts shorter, so less to read through.

This thread started yesterday and I did link my thread from Wed to it. I did not do that on Wednesday when I posted as I had not posted in a long time. I realize Suzanne and I were having a discussion about my cat and this is not the place for that. Sorry

I am so sorry. This is my fault. I’m very guilty of doing this and I promise I will be very mindful of this in the future. Jackie hasn’t posted here that much— she’s not a daily poster — so it’s really my fault to keep resurrecting an old thread. Next time I will try to make sure not to keep commenting on a previous day’s thread.
