Henry's human

Member Since 2016
Hiya - I just thought I would come over and give you a Henry update. He's doing quite well, I think. He has vomited twice in the last two days (small liquid vomits - I think he was hungry on both occasions as it was just before a meal).
Of course I am paranoid I am doing the wrong things at times or that he is unwell at times. But I am only two weeks into this, and I think I am getting better. Sometimes I am still unsure when to give the insulin or when not to - the vet said one thing (under 12 not to) and some people on here said to do it over 8.5 or something... I have updated Henry's spreadsheet.

I am pleased how happy he is most of the time (when he isn't sleeping haha) and how much he has been playing. It is really lovely.

Cheers - Emily :)

You may find it helpful to read over the 2 methods for using Lantus in our Lantus/Levemir section.
Tight Regulation
Start Low, Go Slow

Since you've already got your signature and spreadsheet going, you might go post in that section, as many of the users there are using Lantus, too, and can share their experiences with you. Plus, there are a lot of helpful sticky posts to help you optimize your use of Lantus.

It is possible to slowly reduce the no shot level as your mid-cycle testing shows it is safe. You might try gradually shooting lower until you can shoot safely at 8.4 mmol/L (about 150 mg/dL). We have folks following Tight Regulation who do shoot lower than that because they have test data showing it is safe for their specific cats.

Another thing folks do here is to eyeball or use calipers to measure 0.25 units, so that an even dose may be given every 12 hours. This is because no insulin lasts longer than that and it helps keep the glucose at more consistent levels.

Hello, let me introduce my foster cat Daisy and her situation: I take care of few feral cats whom I spayed/TNRed near my house. About 2 months ago someone dumped a very friendly cat on street to fed for herself. When I found her, and took her to foster; I took her immediately to a veterinarian to check for microchip and learned that she is spayed, front declaw, overweight 15 lbs and very sick; young 3-5 years old. Veterinarian started running blood works, urinalyses and urine culture. She had bad case of UTI, and later we learned she is Diabetic as well; her kidneys were very enlarge too.

Last week me and veterinarian started Daisy on Insulin. I home test her with glucometer.
I have some questions regarding Insulin Dosage I read about "tight regulations" by Dr Hodgkins. Dose anyone has links to Dr Hodgkins forum or how can I reach her?
Daisy was put on 2 units twice per day for 3 days (has keytones at 5 trace) and now she is on 3 units twice per day. Her numbers staying in 300-400. I didn't notice any change in numbers based on increasing insulin dosage. But maybe it was NOT long enough to see deference. She only started insulin last week on Thursday.

I attached her speed sheet
