Helping the Feral Cats in Winter

Living in NE Ohio, our winters get pretty cold and the Feral Cats need help keeping warm here.
We have 2 ferals we feed on a regular basis and have made little houses with Heated Heating Pads for them.

Incase anyone else wants to do this, this is how we made the (2) houses we put on our back patio.

To make the house:
Buy a big plastic storage tub with a lid, cut out a small door at one end, and a hole at the other end for the electric cord of the heating pad to go through.
Insert an outdoor heating pad with the fleece cover on it.
The heating pads are activated by the weight of the cat, so they are not constantly on.

This is where I bought my last heating pad.

In the spring, the house is easy to take apart and clean because you just take the lid off.

I should also note that one of the feral cats we take care of..........we had her spayed and re-released her.
She has had a hard life, and many times we have put antibotics in her food for her to heal after a cat/wild animal attack.
One was a ground hog that did a LOT of damage to her nose. (its half gone)
We didnt think she was going to make it............but luckily she did.
(Hubby made sure the groundhog would never return to hurt her again)

We have also spayed and neutered others, some were re-released, the young ones of course were adopted out.

Thank you for posting this. I am so glad you are helping the little ferals keep warm in the cold winter time. Sounds like a warm cozy place for them.
I'm glad you took such good care of the injured kitty.
