Help, vegetable seems to have an upset tummy & had committed twice today & twice last night. Today's he's not eating to much but is still drinking. Her blood sugar this morning ore shot was 14.3 & at +5 she's at 9.2

We're out camping with her so I'm in town trying to stock up on supplies to make her feel better. Any suggestions on the must have items to help with the vomiting?

Pepcid AC (nothing else in it) and a pill cutter. The usual dose is 1/4 of a tablet 20 minutes before meals to reduce acid and help with eating.
To be prepared, locate nearby veterinary services, including emergency services and have the address and a map to get there.

All I can find is Zantac 75mg's. Is that what I need?

Unflavored pedialyte is good for dehydration that comes with vomiting. Force it down with a syringe. You can find it in the baby aisle of a grocery store, chain store, etc.

If you need to take Vegetable to the vet, Cerenia helps with vomiting and nausea. If you do go to the vet, ask about getting something to use at home - e.g. ondasetron for nausea, cyproheptadine for appetite. You may not need the meds, but it's invaluable to have some to hand when a cat has appetite problems.

Vegetable is not doing good. She won't eat anything! I tried baby food, her wet food, dry food, making her wet food liquid & I tried her favourite sardines, she won't eat!

This morning I was desperate to get food into her so I fed her watered down wet food through a syringe. I've been giving her the pedis lite & I gave her a Zantac yesterday & another one this morning. She's drinking lots but just won't eat & she's lethargic.

We just got home & she having a nice long drink of water then I'm going to try to feed her. Her blood sugar was not to bad this morning at 14.3 & then this afternoon before we left for home she was at 10.2.

I just stopped at the pharmacy & got some keystone testing strips for her & I enquires about IV fluid supplies but the Walmart pharmacy didn't have them in stock (the IV fluids).

I don't know what else to do for her, any suggestions? Also how much liquified food & pedicure do I give her?

Oh dear! It's such a worry when our little ones can't eat.

I've not syringe fed Saoirse. I can't remember what the members here recommend. Also I've never used pedialyte. I'd suggest starting a new thread on the Feline Health board asking for help with assist feeding. I'm very glad you managed to get a little bit of food into her. I'm glad she's drinking at least.

I strongly recommend you get her to the vets to get her checked over ASAP (ring their out of hours service if necessary to get advice) and ask them to prescribe some anti-nausea meds (e.g. generic ondansetron) and an appetite stimulant (e.g. cyproheptadine). Cerenia can help with both nausea and vomiting. It might be worth asking the vet about a B12 injection, too. This can give a kitty a boost, and can help with appetite. Because of the nature of their metabolisms, it is vital that a cat eats. Lack of appetite is very serious. Make sure you test for ketones. If you get a trace result, let your vet know and also post here for advice. Anything more than a trace and you need to take Vegetable to the vets immediately.

I'd also suggest checking out the nausea symptoms and treatments on Tanya's Site. See if Vegetable has any of the symptoms and be sure to describe them to your vet to help with diagnosis.

I hope she feels better soon. Please keep us updated.

I know some people here give B12 injections at home, Jennifer. Our vet does Saoirse's (which I'm glad about - the B12 stings a bit). Again, might be an idea to ask a new question about that on the board as well. People in your geographical location should be able to advise you on what's possible. Sorry I couldn't be of much help on this one.

Many of us had the exact same questions starting out! Ask away! This is a crash course on feline diabetes.

Ok thanks, I feel bad asking so many questions!

Not at all! The only questions we worry about are the ones that people don't ask ('cause they're the ones we can't help you with). ;) As BJ says, so many of us had exactly the same questions before you. :)

Be sure to post an update to let us know how Vegetable's getting on.

Cerenia is the best given for 3 days. One pill split into 6 for small cat given once a day. Best solution for vomiting.

Hi Shane

Vegetable is much better this weekend, thank you for asking. Today is a very good day for Vegetable, she has lots of blue on her ss & she's eating, drinking & having awesome cat naps complete with what I think is a very good dream by the way she was talking in her sleep :)

Hi Jennifer - I have sort of been watching Vegetable (how can you not, what a cutie) and am so glad she is going much better!

What wonderful news! I love it that your girl talks in her sleep. :)
