Hi all,

I posted here with having trouble with the Solostar earlier this week and many of you recommended using the pen like a vial. I have syringes now, but I just wanted to verify I am understanding the process right.

1. I saw that with a vial you're supposed to fill it with air first, but you shouldn't do that with a pen. I've read that you should remove air from the syringe first, before inserting the needle.
2. Draw out the insulin and if you go over the dose, remove the needle and shoot out the excess. Don't put the excess back into the pen because the pen can be contaminated by the lubricant.

Am I missing anything? Any other tips?

Thanks!

You are good to go
A pen should last about 6 months depending on how many units you give . You can use it to the last drop
Keep the pens in the fridge middle shelf

There's a video of how to use any insulin pen with a syringe here (scroll down a bit): https://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB...info-proper-handling-drawing-fine-dosing.151/

Push the syringe plunger to the zero line. Insert the syringe needle into the rubber end of the pen. Draw out a little more insulin than you need because there will be an air bubble. Remove syringe need from pen. Tap / flick to move the air bubble towards the needle. Slowly push the plunger to remove the air bubble and excess insulin.
