Help with food please!! Really need advice or guidance from those who have experience

Hey all,

just on this note of insulin doses; I just checked aboo’s BG and it was at 3.6. I’ve given him a tsp of food which he’s eating, he’s fully alert and active. I’m going to test his BG again in an hour, every hour until it starts to go up. Is there anything I should be doing? And does this mean I should be dropping insulin to 0.25?

Night owl on tonight. Yes on the reduction to 0.25 units. Looks like you've got him up and safe. :D

Thank you! Does that mean 0.25 moving forward for all shots?

yes thankfully! Took a lot of hovering and alarms!

I’m going to give him 0.25 for his morning shot because it’s scheduled for the next 20 min and I’ll be working during his lowest points. I don’t want to risk leaving and giving him too much. I hope that’s the right thing!

I had been feeding FF pate but have switched to President’s Choice (Superstore brand - we are in Canada) but still a Grocery store brand with less than 10% carbs. Freckle’s is doing well and her insulin has been reduced from 11u twice per day now down to 5.5u.

I think the better question would be to ask your vet what is so great about the prescription food? Ask what the carb count is. I believe some companies coat the kibble with something to make the cats thirsty And you could add a little bit of water to FF pate to get more water into your kitty while having lower carbs and something affordable.

Which PC flavour do you use? Are they all low in carbs? Buddy use to eat PC salmon before being diagnosed. I know all seafood is not good.
