HELP - syringes from Hocks didn't come, used last one

Hello,

I ordered U-100 syringes from Hocks with 1/2 unit markings and 5/16 31-gauge needles (my usual) on September 28, and they haven't arrived. I checked their website today, and the order is still listed as Processing! I've tried to call many times, but not only is there no answer but the voice-mail mailbox is full. Something seems to be wrong at Hocks.

Can someone recommend a new source of these syringes? If GNP is no longer available, is there a source for another brand? Can someone send me about 15 to last until the arrive (I would send you back 15 when I got some)? I will be happy to send PayPal for the postage - after you send them, if you can't reach me before; you really can trust me.

I used the last one just now - Dr. Jen doesn't recommend re-using them, but I am going to keep it cold in case I really have to.

Syringes from Hocks have always arrived in 3 days, and I re-ordered with a week to spare, so thought I was safe. Please help!

Blessings,

Shirley and Mr. Wonderful

Hi Shirley--

Is there a Walmart near you? That's where I get mine, you can pick them up and they're only about $13. They don't always have the 5/16, 31g with half unit markings in stock but if they don't it usually takes only a day or two to get them in.

If they don't have them in stock, you can call around to pharmacies and see if there is anyone near you that does, and get them from Walmart in the future when you can give them a few days to fill the order.

I have some I can send you but I think you'll have better luck getting them more quickly at a local pharmacy.

I've checked with all the local pharmacies, and not one has 1/2 unit markings - and I've been measuring his as precisely as 1/2 unit to the top of the mark, middle of the mark, and bottom of the mark. nailbite_smile There isn't a Walmart nearby either - small town, about 6000 people, no Walmart.

Dr Jen has some U-100, but NO half-unit markings. So I really need a Good Samaritan to send me some. I will check the Internet for another source too, and order a box if I find them, but there might not be any (haven't checked yet; hoped to find a source through the Board before going blindly to Google).

Even if I find another source, they wouldn't mail now until tomorrow. Can someone send us some today? SOS!

Blessings,

I would just use whole unit insulin syringes until you can get your Hocks.com order or get insulin syringes from another place. It's better than nothing. Just eyeball the half unit.

Also, some pharmacists have no idea that half unit marked insulin syringes exist. Try calling the pharmacies again and double check.

AmericanDiabetesWholesale.com is another popular online place where FDMB members buy insulin syringes from.

I believe I have some, could send to you....let me know! I leave work in 1 hour

I agree about calling around again. Someplace has to have syringes with half unit markings even if they're the 1/2" needles instead of the 5/16" needles.

I have a bag of 10 5/16" needles and a bag of 10 1/2" needles left from when Bandit needed insulin again briefly. I wouldn't be able to make it to the post office until tomorrow afternoon, though, so you wouldn't get them for a few days. That's why a trip to a nearby town, even if you have to drive a half hour or so, might be a better option. You don't want to reuse syringes. Call ahead and make sure they have some with half unit markings, though. 1/2" needles come in 28-29g, I believe, and the 5/16" needles come in 30-31g.

And if worst comes to worst, eyeballing the ones without the markings is still better than reusing syringes or skipping shots.

If you do want me to mail you what I have tomorrow, PM me before 6 tonight, because I likely won't be online after that this evening.

If you have to go with ones without half-unit marks....take an old syringe, fill it with colored water to the half unit mark and use that one to compare to where you have to fill the one without half-unit marks.

I am too late - went to town to look for syringes, got some from Dr. Jen (w/o 1/2 unit markings), just got back. I greatly appreciate your offer, though! I may be eyeballing, and would appreciate it, if you get this, if you could send them tomorrow, and I will send you postage.

Thanks and blessings!

I may be too late here too - I tried the drugstores but they don't have them and got back a short time ago. But I greatly appreciate your offer! There is a PM from someone; I will check it out right now.

Blessings!

I called Walmart in the nearest larger city and found out that because they don't have pharmacies at Walmarts in ND because of state law, they don't have syringes either. Tried the nearest one out of state, in Dilworth, MN, but they don't carry syringes with 1/2u markings. I don't know where the nearest new syringe with 1/2u markings is to me - hundreds of miles, looks like.

I can't eyeball it because Ragnar is now doing so well! He was hours late with his blood test last night because he hid, and I thought "Oh no, he will be over 400!" He was 120, and I tested him again at 8 AM and he was 178 and got his shot - 1/2u to bottom of the mark, on the previously used syringe that I'd sterlized with alchohol as Dr. Jen told me to do.

When he's like this, it makes a HUGE difference to him whether it's 1/2u to bottom or even middle of that skinny mark, and I can't eyeball that. So I have to use the old, hoary syringe, which is now a little bent, until he either comes up enough to eyeball it (normally when he's like this I hope for falls in the distance!) or I get some syringes.

I believe a good Samaritan on the Board is going to send some. Please, Good Samaritan, if you read this, please send them ASAP! I will also order today from the other source someone gave me in response to this message, but one from an individual on the Board would undoubtedly arrive soonest, and a box I order might not arrive until next week. nailbite_smile

Will keep you all updated. In the meantime, I also wonder what happened to Hocks - it's a week since I ordered and the order hasn't even been processed yet. No answer to their phone, and the voice mail is filled up, so they haven't answered their phone for a long time.

Blessings,

That might not work too well. Different brands/types can have slightly different internal
barrel sizes, and the 'height' of the liquid will not necessarily line up exactly.

Better to eye-ball it.

Shirley, I've PM'd you and just need your address and I can mail a couple bags out tomorrow.

Did you order the correct syringes with half unit marks from a local pharmacy? Whenever I order mine from the Walmart or Wegmans pharmacy (I pick them up at either place depending what part of town I'm running errands in), it only takes a day or two for them to come in, which might be faster than the mail.

THANKS!! I put in my other post that I just got an email back from Hocks and they are sending them by 2-day air, so you probably don't need to send them after all. They are even refuding my $3 postage (WOW - not). What a lot of trouble because Hocks has, as someone else said, gone to Heck!

I might order from them eventually, but will check on the status of that order the next day, and if it's not sent, email them. They do answer email. They don't answer their phone, and their filled voice-mail box indicates that they haven't answered it in a long time.

Maybe it's really a very small company. Some people think my music company is much bigger than it is, but it's just me...

Blessings!
