Help please!!

I am callin the vet when he opens but if I can get any info now that would be helpful.

I took Springer off of dry cat food and he is a wet food boy now.
He's not really drinking. If he is, it's barely making a dent in his water bowl.
I've read that this could be from wet food containing water. He is urinating normally (not excess or too little). But everything is a concern right now. I am way too high strung for this.
Any ideas? Tips?
 
This is only from my experience as a similar thing happened with my 3 cats when I switched to wet food.

On dry, I filled up water bowls twice or 3 times a day and every morning and evening they were waiting for me in the bathroom sink - queuing up for running water. 1 would even lie in the sink to give me a big hint!

Now, the bowls are hardly touched and they don't bother with the sinks at all.

So, it could just be a normal reaction - as he is still peeing ok. Not sure how else you could determine whether its ok.
 
Breathe!!! BREATHE!!!!

Its perfectly normal for a cat only eating wet to not touch the water bowl much/at all. In the wild cats get their moisture needs met by eating prey.

That is what I was thinking but it creeped me out. Never has that situation arised.
 
Agree. A cat can get all the water he needs from canned food. When mine were on dry food, they'd drink like fish, a couple of bowls a day. Once Bob became diabetic, and they both went to all canned low carb food, they hardly ever drink from the water bowl. I don't think I see Bob in the water bowl more than once a week.

Do you know how to check for dehydration? Pull the scruff up and let go. If it snaps back right away, your cat is well hydrated. If it stays up and slowly falls back down, your cat is dehydrated. You can also press on the gums and watch for the blood refill time. It should return to pink right away.

Dry foods have no water which is why a cat has to drink out of a bowl and even then they don't really get enough water. Canned foods are high in water so a cat won't need to drink from a bowl too often. You can add extra water to the canned food to ensure good water intake. Some cats like soupy canned food, others prefer to the food to still have some texture.

Maui used to drink water like crazy, so much so that I had her tested to be sure this was "normal" and there wasn't something else wrong.

Once she switched to wet food only (and I added extra water to the food), she stopped drinking water from her bowl, my glass, etc. I initially thought something was wrong, until I realized, she was behaving fine, peeing fine, etc.

I got used to her not drinking separate water anymore, and then one day, she took a sip of water and I freaked, thinking something was wrong with her. Nope, she was just thirsty.
 
The only time KT now camps at the water bowl is when his numbers are high - above about 250....other than that, he no longer drinks much now. You're OK!

Zoe is not a diabetic but when I put her water bowl down she walks way aroud it. She does NOT get the whole "water" thing...:/. She has never had dry food as long as she has been with us.

And BTW...That is exactly why I dont have children. I'd be a nut case.........
