Good Evening
Snafu has been doing well since he has moved to wet food, although the numbers keep going up and down which really confuses a novice like me . Recent numbers have been good and I think we have some kind of a spreadsheet. He is still on two units of caninsulin, but today morning test was 282 before food -
I have just tested this evening, and his reading is 127 !!
So does this mean I do not give him his shot tonight after his food ?
I am trying to do things correct as much as possible but my testing skills are not good and I can only manage when I have a freind come to assist. I am now feeding him Friskies classic Pate - I give him half the 156g tin in the morning and some again if I am at home around 3pm as he cries if he has to wait until 8pm is this the right thing to do ?

Since that is the lowest number you've gotten and you say you can't test much to monitor, skipping may be your best option. If you could delay the shot without feeding and do some testing, you could wait and give the shot once you see his numbers rise into a place you feel comfortable giving insulin.

Feeding an extra meal when you get home is fine. Many of us feed smaller meals more times in a day. It eases the load on the pancreas and makes the cat less crazy.

Hi Janet, 127 is a great number! As you know, I'm new here and am not going to give dosing advice, but I agree with Melanie that you should probably skip. I've been told not to give shots if they are under 200. You may get a higher number at his next PS time since it will have been 24 hrs since he had a shot, but that's ok. It sounds like the change in diet has really helped Snafu, that's great! I hope someone that knows more than I do reads your post and can give you more info. As far as feeding, yes it's fine to give some extra meals during the day, just make sure Snafu has no food for 2 hours before his BG test. That way his numbers won't be food influenced.

It looks like that 127 was at +9 (9 hours after this morning's shot)

By PMPS time, that could be a much higher number, so it's impossible to tell you now what to do in 3 hours when it's time to shoot again

Depending on where he's at then, you may need to REDUCE the shot, but I wouldn't skip it entirely unless he's very very low
