I apologize if I am posting too often.

Catee had only ate about 1 oz of dry food today, he free feeds, when I gave him his shot of 1.75 Prozinc. I just took his +6 BG and it was 81, tested again 88. I am so worried. I gave him 3 high carb cat treats. I know that is not super low but his PMPS was 307.

Should I not given him the shot? I know he had only ate a little but he was 307. I am scared he will keep going lower.
He has been restless, drinking and urinating a lot still but more today. He still isn't eating well.

I can not do a ketones test, the monitor is suppose to come tomorrow.

I know it is late but would greatly appreciate some reassurance.

Hi

Yep I'm up since I fell asleep on couch earlier and now can't fall back to sleep. :YMSIGH:

I think sugar kitty is ok. Normal in a cat is 50-120. Also from what you said, he is climbing (81 & then 88). He's still drinking and peeling a lot still because he's not regulated yet. It was ok to give him the shot. He was above 200. I am a newbie so don't want to give dosing advice. I'd check him again and if he's still climbing, then he should be ok. If you want to set an alarm and check later, for reassurance, that wouldn't' t hurt.

Thanks for replying. I will check him again soon. I will probably stay up and watch him for awhile.

I hate for him to be going through this.

I know.

Wish they could talk and tell us where it hurts.

Hank has been on ProZinc now almost 2 months. He's on.5u and numbers during the day are around 100's. You'll get there.

Hope you can sleep soon.

Kimmie

He climbed rapidly. I laid on the couch and watched him. Did not sleep much.
From 88 to 427. I only gave him 1.25 this morning. Not sure what to do.

I am worrying he has a UTI. Started not eating well again, even high carb food, just laying around sleeping. I am having a hard time converting him to canned food, can not get him to eat Young Again or even Purina Dm. I am at a lost.

You are NOT posting too often. I hope you realize that every one of us was nervous and overwhelmed in the beginning and needed assurance, often. As Kimmie said, your 88 was really a lovely number. We usually don't start to intervene until the cat is dropping below 50, but we understand that after seeing numbers in the 300s, 88 seems low!

You will be able to see more patterns as you collect more numbers. My guess is that your high preshots are because he drops low in the middle of the cycle and then bounces back up. Just as the 88 made you nervous, it also probably made his liver nervous. When his body senses a number lower than it is used to, it releases extra sugars to bring that number up. And so his numbers bounce back up. The more numbers he gets in the lower ranges, the more his body will become accustomed to them and the less likely he will be to bounce.

It might be helpful for you to go over to the PZI forum and check out some of the threads and some of the spreadsheets to see how other cats are doing and how their people are dosing them. Every cat is different, but knowing that others have dealt with the same issues can be helpful.

You are doing Fine! You are testing to make sure he stays in safe numbers, you are working to get him off the dry. Many cat parents hear the diagnosis of diabetes and give up, putting the cat to sleep or just giving the shot blindly until one day he hypos. Instead you started researching and learning and are doing the best you can to keep your sweet kitty safe. Pat your self on the back and (as a wise person once posted to me) breathe deeply and often. :-D

THanks for the reassurance.

I believe I might have to take him to the vet. He is eating very little, I had a very hard time giving him this shot today. I had to call my brother to hold him down. PMPS was 427.

I think a vet visit is a good idea, especially since you feel something is wrong. A UTI can definitely raise the numbers. You might ask the vet about pancreatitis also, as inappetite is a common symptom. Maybe ask about an appetite stimulant and syringe feeding, if he is not eating enough.

In addition to an appetite stimulant, you want an anti-nausea med too. Trying to eat on an upset stomach doesn't work.
