HELP PLease National Back Order on Cabergoline

Hi I was just informed there is a National Back Order on Cabergoline??? Is there another medication that can be given in its place??? Thanks!!! Can I safely give Amethyst reduced amounts until I can find some or something else??

Pamela, I moved your post where more people who use cabergoline would see it. I know of know medication that can be given in it's place, that is also cost effective. Pasireotide is outrageously expensive.
 
Hi Pamela, do you have a link or something we can look at indicating the drug shortage? I just did some searches for the FDA and a database from Canada and it looks like there was something from November 2020 but it’s been resolved.

Hi Thank you for getting back to me I was told by my Animal Pharmacy this morning that they do not have any Cabergoline because of a National Back Order? Also would you know how I can keep Amethyst safe on what I still have?? She can not go without:(:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:Thanks!!

Interesting...it must be very recent as there is no info on any internet searches. Was the info from Wedgewood Pharmacy or somewhere else? If it wasn’t from Wedgewood, maybe call them to inquire? I just got a refill last month and my vet and I were not told anything. Unfortunately I don’t have other ideas/info. Howie just started on Cabergoline in Feb.

Wedgewood does have some But they only make it in 25 not 30 and they are $40 more than my Animal Pharmacy:(I am trying to make it fit into my June budget right now because she can not go without any:arghh:

Gosh I feel like I'd better re-order mine with Wedgewood right now. I got mine through the vet though, not directly from Wedgewood.
 
I just called Wedgewood. He said it was the first call that he'd had about it. I've called my vet and asked for a refill. I'm considering raising Darcy's dose back up to every day instead of EOD... although Dr. Elber in Argentina said EOD was fine/it didn't matter. All I know is that since I switched to EOD Darcy's numbers and insulin dose have increased. I'm going to post about this separately.
 
When will you run out? I hope you can get some before that. You could cut her to every other day or give half a dose every day and hopefully that will only be temporary. Or if you are only going to miss a day or two, I doubt if it will matter.

THanks I will run out on Friday. The Animal Pharmacy sends me her prescription and lets me pay what I can when I can Wedgewood would not do that for me so that is why I am so upset because I will run out on Friday and will not have my SSDI until June 3rd and then will have to wait until it is shipped. I emailed the RVC clinic in England and asked them about how can I keep her safe with the small amount I have left I got an automatic response saying they would get back to me in 2 days. What do you think I should do in the mean time?? Thanks:bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
We have had other members give it every other day for a while, when they were getting low. I would try that.
 
Pamela, will you be able to get your Cabergoline? I have been worried about this. The people at Wedgewood don't know about a shortage... so I was hoping the people at Animal Pharmacy will be able to obtain the ingredients to compound your Cabergoline! I tried to get mine filled early, but the people at Wedgewood were concerned that I was getting it filled prematurely (since it is an abortifacient they seem to be worried that I am misusing it!) I said it was because I had heard there could be a problem getting ingredients. But I have been hoping that you will be able to get yours!

Hi NO for some reason Animal Pharm. keeps telling me they do not have any Thank you for your concern and help. The other problem I have is financially, like everyone else Animal Pharm has been sending me Amethyst Cabergoline and Invoice it and letting me pay a little at a time when I can Wedgewood would not consider that:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I used a compounding pharmacy named Med Specialties, located in Yorba Linda CA, this past week and they filled my order within three days of ordering. They sold me a 30mL bottle of 100mcg/mL Cabergoline for $69 + tax. I am not sure if that is a good or bad price but that comes out to a little over $1/day for Mowgli's medication.

I believe they would need your vet to call in a prescription or email it over. Once they have that information you can decide on what flavor you want. Hopefully they are able to work with you!

Did you have to pay shipping on that, Jaime? Of did you just pick it up locally. You are in California, right?

Thank you SOO munch Diane I am hoping we can go with Ethos,they are right in Woburn,Mass. next to Winchester where I grew up. I have to wait until Dr. Pickering can fax Amethyst Script over which may not be until tomorrow morning:(:cat::bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:
