Hello,

I am pet sitting a diabetic cat. I was able to give the cat insulin the first night, but two attempts yesterday for it’s 2x daily insulin and the cat would not come out from hiding.

the owner had me pull all food up hoping this morning she would’ve hungry and waiting. Still no sign of the cat and have been here for 3 hours.

I am watching this cat for three more days but am afraid it will never come out. I am not sure if I should still leave food out for her.

I am terrified of the cat dying in my care. Any help would be great.

I had the exact thing happen to me once. Just keep the owner informed. Don't feel guilty for not "getting the job done".
Once on Christmas Eve, I took my husband with me to give a cat her insulin, and after two hours, we had to give up. Another time, was as you describe.
I have given other cats and dogs insulin with no trouble at all, but if you don't have a good relationship with the cat . . .

I really feel for you - just tell the people, and maybe you can come up with a plan, or they could come home! Any chance they have a nearby family member who could assist?

Food - I would still leave it out and hopefully it's a low carb food.

Hi, please feed the cat! Cats need to eat or they can get really sick.
I am new here, so not in the best position to offer advice. but is there a treat they left that the cat really loves? Better to bribe with treats. And I agree with Tina Marie and Jan, can you get someone to help you?

Best thing is to stay very calm. If you can get the cat distracted by treats, then you can give the shot. Also very important to make sure you give the shot in the right place, just under the skin.

Where are you located? Maybe someone else is near you who could help.

Can you tell us what insulin she’s on? The cat won’t die for 3 days with no insulin, but I agree with everyone it needs to eat or it could develop worse issues. Also, it’s important it eats for the insulin shots. I feel for you. I pet sat 3 cats once and one had to be medicated orally and when the owner did it in front of me, the cat was super easy to handle, but when it was just me there that cat would not have it. Then the other 2 surrounded me and attacked me  I had tiny cat bite marks on my ankles lol I couldn’t get mad because they were protecting their sibling ha! And it sure worked because they ran me off!! Good luck!!!

That is quite an image, ha!!! Glad you made it out of there (mostly) in one piece!

I agree, food is probably more important than the insulin in the short term. Hopefully soon she'll trust you enough to let you do both!

Oh you just made me think about tuna? A cat should be super excited to smell tuna. I’d try that!

Of course!!!! Great idea.

Spread it around in flakes on a plate so she can't just gulp it, and get the insulin dose prepared first. When her face is buried in the plate or bowl, then lift up her skin and do the shot. Fingers crossed!!! Keep us posted.

And that’s exactly what happened my friend! They circled me as I was trying to get the 3rd cat and you could hear that sound they make when they see another animal they’re trying to keep away and suddenly they lounged at my feet. I was just like okay, you guys win I’m outta here. It broke the skin I had these tiny vampire like bites on my ankles LOL :D:D:D

Please do a proper search for the cat just in case there is something wrong. Cats can hide in the smallest and least obvious places. I once went through a neighbour's house on my hands and knees looking everywhere on each floor four times before I found their cat. I eventually noticed the cat stuck between a glass window pane and its outside screen on the second floor! Apparently it had knocked over the piece of wood holding up the glass.

Try singing. The cat will eventually identify you with the singing rather than the scary noises. Worth a try. That, and banging the cat food tin with the side of a fork.

Oh my god Ale, circling around you,I would have been out of there too. One time I went to a shelter to adopt an older cat , this is before I adopted Tyler and Perry.
So me and my daughter go and the people showed me older cats. There was one named Oreo, the woman takes him out of the cage and says he's a sweetheart.
OK so she hands him to me and all of a sudden he latches onto the side of my hand and won't let go, and he was a big cat. I couldn't get him off so I just flung my arm and he let go and took off.
Blood every where
I go to the front desk and tell them what happened.
I come to find out then when he was returned by someone else who adopted him, bit their kid.
They shelter should have made that known or put a note on his cage that he might bite.
Had to go to the doctors and I gave the shelter the bill.
They were real ass ho*es about.
He had a grip on me like a tiger
So then that's when I adopted Tyler and Perry as kittens from a place called Angels of animals. They had them on display at Petco.
They rescue cats, the mother had 6 kittens and I took these two

Urghhh they should definitely have a note on the cat’s file but at least not just hand it over for someone to hold :mad::mad: that’s like a scene from a Stephen King horror movie :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:
