How do I get my cat to eat wet food? I slowly started transitioning him to Merrick Before Grain Turkey canned food about two+ weeks ago. After a week he was switched over, now he has slowly stopped eating it. Doesn't matter warm, cold, hot, on the floor, on the table, he eats a bite or two then totally uninterested. He's lost .7lb in the last 7 days, so I'm adding some grain free dry food back in so he'll stop losing weight. I'd try other flavors but he has several food allergies including chicken, and Merrick Turkey was one of the few foods that didn't contain ingredients he's allegic to. I've also tried cooking for him, and he won't eat that either. Any suggestions? If he absolutely will not eat fresh or canned food, are there any decent dry foods?

Others may have better suggestions, but if your cat isn't allergic to parmesan cheese, try sprinkling a little bit on the top of his wet food. I learned that trick from catinfo.org, and it works for my cats!

There are tips here: http://catinfo.org/docs/Tips for Transitioning PDF 1-14-11.pdf

Be patient  Some really stubborn dry food addicts may take months to transition to at least some canned food. You can buy a product called FortiFlora and sprinkle it on top of the canned food to make it more appealing. The main ingredient is animal digest which is the same stuff that is sprayed on dry food that makes it so yummy and addicting to cats. Amazon.com and PetFoodDirect.com are two online places where you can buy FortiFlora.

Thank you for the suggestions and the link, that article is very helpful! I will try some Parmesan Cheese tomorrow!

For sure get some Forti Flora.... I don't know what's in that stuff, but it made Shadoe's eyes bug out and she had me trained to sprinkle a bit on her food quite often. I was thinking she just pretended she did not want her food, just so she could get the sprinkles.

Do you know what ingredients aside from chicken are in his allergies? Maybe by knowing what you are avoiding, others will be able to give better suggestions.

Also, I think it's normal for cats to decide they don't like a food if we get too comfortable.
What dry food were you feeding before that did not have the ingredients he was allergic to eating.
