Sprocket wont eat as he is having a flare up of urinary issue. He is walking around peeing in all different spots.
What dose do i give him?? 2.68 or 2.75? How late can i give insulin as I need to give insulin for 645am on monday am.

I gave his gabapentin & prazosin to help him but they take hour n half to kick in.
I keep trying to give food but he wont eat yet.

I'm too new at this so I can't give you advice, but I've faced this myself before. It's scary, I know. Sometimes it helps to call someone's attention by doing @ plus their name and then choosing the right person. I always ask @Wendy&Neko for advice, so I've done that now for you. I'm sure someone more experienced will jump in soon. I'd always be cautious and go for the conservative option if you're not sure what to do. Sending you hugs and lots of support! :bighug::bighug::bighug:

I'd wait until someone replies who can advise you. I won't shoot unless my cat has had some food. But I'm new, so you need someone with more experience to guide you. Have you re-read the stickies for the SLGS?

Sometimes a für shot happens, which ends up being a missed dose. That's ok. And if you have to skip this shot, you can just give the next shot at your usual time. Are you worried about DKA?

I think he is low enough to not get dka. 259 was at 606am. 736am now. Here.
But he needs food.
Its not a furshot.
I need to give but he wont even eat a few bites yet

Hi Darnell--

I haven't been around a lot lately so I haven't kept up on Sprocket's situation, but I'd be hesitant to suggest skipping given his history of DKA.

Do you think he'll eat once the meds kick in? It sounds like he's having problems with the UTI, but isn't generally feeling yucky (still moving around, etc.).

BG doesn't have to be high for ketones to develop. I would worry given the UTI (possible trigger) and his lack of interest in food.

Is he on some kind of antibiotic for the UTI? Is this that same stubborn problem that they haven't been able to clear up for a while now?

OK, just looked through the spreadsheet quickly-- sounds like the vets think that the UTI issue might be stress-related, and so he's on meds for anti-anxiety to help that rather than antibiotics?

Hope he starts eating soon.

Ok. He finally ate some food. 1.5oz of his 3 carb but without his cosequin n famotidine. Another 1oz of 3 carb.
Gave insulin at 748am. 2.75u.
So i can give insulin at 715pm tonight n back to 645am on monday am??

Yeah its been a rough few weeks. I got some *****ing to do tomorrow. He needs some pain meds as the amitriptyline is slow in working well.
He walks around peeing in litterbox, empty boxes, his carriers , and rugs. I try to keep him off furniture.
He is ending his prazosin very soon. He is also on gabapentin 100mg 3xday too.

Normally I think the rule is 15 minutes/cycle or 30 minutes/day, but if the 6:45 is a hard deadline, it's a hard deadline. Will you be able to monitor at all tomorrow?

So glad he's decided to eat! That should hopefully help him to feel a little better soon.

Yeah i will be monitoring like i do as you see on ss. I do have 1 appt tomorrow and will need to go get meds tomorrow for him in 2 different directions.
Why will dose time change make things different?

Sometimes dose changes act like increases or decreases because of the timing of lantus action and overlaps. The moves you're making aren't radical time changes, so it should hopefully be a very minor effect, but in general we like to say that an early dose may act like a dose increase, and a late dose (like today) may act like a dose decrease. So mostly it's just something to be aware of when your schedule changes and you have to start shifting times around-- but as long as you are still monitoring, you should be fine!
