Help me put on the patience pants

Hi, all--

I'm having a hard time making progress with Misha, who was in remission for a while and is now back on the juice. In the last day or so, he has started to seem symptomatic to me--drinking more and peeing more, especially. So I am really wishing I could get him down into the blues, at least. But I don't think I have quite enough data to go from the 1.25 he's getting right now to 1.5. It's only been a few days, he did have one green number, and I don't have much info from the +7-+9 range.

Augh! I have to wait, right? I won't be able to get daytime numbers in the mystery range until the weekend. I can try to get nighttime ones tonight, but I'm completely exhausted, so I will pay a big price for that (in terms of being miserable the next day at work).

What do you think was up with that bizarre green streak he had on 9/2? Does that just happen? Or does it mean I've probably been injecting him wrong on other days, or maybe gave him a larger dose by accident that morning or something? I have been VERY careful since a recent overdose incident, so I don't *think* it's that, but...why all the green just that one time?

Looking back up in his sheet, I'm also really sad to see how far behind our short out-of-town trip last month put us. He was getting lots of blues and some greens at a lower dose than what he's currently on, but then we had to have the petsitter give him a really low one--it wasn't clear whether she'd be able to test him.

Any advice/thoughts/patience-pants lectures would be much appreciated, as always. Hope everyone and their kitties are having a good day!
 
Forgot to ask about one more thing...do you think I should take him in to get his teeth cleaned? It's been a couple of years, and he definitely has some tartar--can't tell if anything else might be going on. Last time we saw the vet, she thought it was not urgent but did need to be done in the next year or two. I can afford it--it's just that he gets extremely stressed by vet visits and that he has had some kind of weird heart arrhythmia at least once while under anesthesia--we got him checked out a visiting veterinary cardiologist (long story how that randomly happened to be possible), and they didn't see any issues when he's not under anesthesia, but what if the problem happens again? I guess I need to get our vet's opinion about that issue.

He has also gained a little weight since the OTJ period--he's 14 lbs and should probably be 12. I know it's bad for diabetic kitties to be overweight, but the thought of trying to get him to lose weight, with everything else going on right now, makes me want to cry--either I'll lose even more sleep (he'll hassle me for food all night) and the other cat will be beaten up multiple times a day, or he'll have to stay by himself in a bedroom overnight and possibly during some days...where he won't be able to "tell" me if he's not feeling well...
 
The depot at this dose should be starting to fill up and you should know by today what it can do. The good news is the weekend is almost here.

It's not unusual to see a stretch of green, then have it go away. He could have a touch of glucose toxicity going on.
 
It's been about 5 months since the last vet visit and bloodwork, I think. I'm glad the green streak is not a huge anomaly! Now I need to read about glucose toxicity...thank you both. I do have ketone test strips but haven't used them recently; maybe I should restart that.
 
Hmm, now I have a question about food. The short article I read on glucose toxicity said that it is critical to remove all dry food--even low-carb. I have already tried to do this (since I'm following TR), but I don't always rehydrate the Primal Freeze-Dried Raw food he gets--I leave a little of it out for him at night, and I don't want it to spoil. He LOVES the texture, so it's a treat for him. I am going to try to switch to freezing some canned food and setting that out before leaving for work and going to bed, so that he has that available...but do you think letting him have any of the freeze-dried stuff (un-rehydrated) is a huge problem? Or is the issue more about the binders, etc. that are used in kibble? (This stuff comes in big bricks.) (I do know how important water is in general.)
 
I think the freeze dried raw is OK in moderation. It's more a question of what the food is made of and how fast it metabolizes. Freeze dried all meat treats are also OK.
