We started Novolin insulin on Thursday and all weekend it has been a bit of a rollercoaster of kitty being a bit lethargic and licking his food but not really eating much to eating occasionally and acting normal. Tonight I couldn't get him to eat his own dinner so I chopped up some plain cooked chicken and thankfully he ate that. I also got half of an anti-nausea pill for him to try and help because it seemed like he was nauseas.

Now it's 11:30pm and I just got off the phone with the emergency vet who said that even though he is pretty lethargic to wait until morning to take him in because he is at 275 for glucose and ate a little for dinner.

It is so very hard to see him be like this. This is not my kitty and I can't sleep!

So sorry. Hopefully, someone else will see your post. Is there another canned food that is also low carb that you could rotate? Sometimes, they change their liking. Maybe warm water with the food helps the aroma. There isn't any other symptoms, like stuffy breathing, etc that may be impacting the ability to be attracted to the food?

He seems to be nauseas. He will go to the food and just do a lot of licking but he gobbled up the cooked chicken but that was super bland.

If nausea is a problem, you might try 1/4 of a plain Pepcid AC or slippery elm bark solution as described on Tanya's Feline CRF web site Many CRF cats have nausea, so they have quite a few solutions.

Angie, have you gotten those ketone test strips, and tested him? Hopefully your vet will let you switch to Lantus and his BG's will level out and he'll feel better.
