Poor Sadie, a ten year old Cali. She sneezes constantly over and over. I had another cat that did that and eventually his sinuses were severely compromised which caused his death. We have tried most antibiotics over the many years and the usual Depo shot and Convenia combo and years ago some of the stuff worked to reduce the affects, but not anymore. We are trying Famciclovir, but at a huge 250 mg foul tasting tab we are not having any luck. I have tried L-Lysine powder over her food, but that does not seem to work. Any suggestions?

my constantly sneezing tortoise cat for many years turned out to have issues with all the litters we use over the years and it took me a bit to realize her sneezing stopped before when we were trying out pellets for litter and than came back after those didn't work out and suddendly stopped again a few months ago right after we started using unscented grass seed litter.. perhaps that could be the case for your kitty since l-lysine and other things aren't helping??

as for the l-lysine, i found it didn't work as well when daily dosage was spread out throughout the day like with meals. i get really good results when it is given on an emptier tummy with either the pump version that puts out one full dose or when i use a full 250mg scoop of the powder form dilluted in 1-2ml of water and squirt it into their mouth with a syringe.

Do you know the cause of the sneezing? If it is not an infection, antibiotics would not help. If it is from allergies, you could try giving her Zyrtec each day; Willow get's 1/4 tablet which is 2.5mg each day. Good air filtration helps reduce the allergens in the air. I am a big fan of really good air purifiers. If it is from 'growths' compromising her airway, and they are not going to be removed, perhaps an anti-inflammatory could help. If you have Cerenia on hand (used for nausea), you could try that for a few days and see if it makes a difference since it has anti-inflammatory properties or maybe try some MSM.

My cat has had sneezing with huge snotty boogers (looks comical when she licks them up hanging from her nose!) ever since I found her 9 yrs ago. What seems to work for her is prednisone 2.5mg every other day long term and every day for up to a week when she has a flare up. I know this isn't recommended for diabetic kitties but nothing else helped her and the pred helped with other inflammation like arthritis. Recently she started on cerenia, daily for awhile, and now 2X/wk also which lessened the need for the increased doses of pred. My kitty has chronic rhinitis and now COPD/pulmonary hypertension related to that :(.

BTW..this is Bert not Sadie who is a Calico. It is extremely hard to squeeze anything in her mouth..trust me on this.
And putting stuff in her food she picks up right away. but I don't want anymore Depo of AntiBs. Someone said get the Famiciclovir compounded. Thank you for all of your valuable advice.
