Some of the meds we give smell and taste awful. I have discovered a food that can mask anything..just about.

Available at local pet store is a canned food called Solid Gold. It is a Tuna blend. When you open the can you will see some pinkish Tuna looking chunks and some mushy dark meat. Mix the two together on a paper plate. Cover with plastic wrap and mash to a pulp with a small hammer. Then add enough water to make a wet slurry. Portion out about three table spoons and add the meds and mix well making sure it is all nice and wet and easy to slurp. Put the rest back in the can for later. I like the small cans better. This works most of the time and has been a great help to me and some friends who are now using it.

Good luck!

I have one of those cats that just won't eat anything she suspects you have tampered with, we tried everything and no luck. Then the vet taught me how to pill her, this is just so much easier for us....and a great trick to have when your cat is placed on a pill that has a time release/crush proof coating.

Place the cat on a table to start (I can now do it wherever she is laying). With your dominant hand, grab the top of the head, placing a thumb under one cheekbone and a finger(s) under the other. Gently pull up with your thumb, fingers until the cat's nose is pointed straight up in the air. The lower jaw should drop a little on it's own. Use your other hand to sweep the pill in from the side of the mouth, do not put your fingers in the cat's mouth. Quickly use the same hand to close the mouth and while holding the mouth shut, rub the cat's nose. They HATE having their nose touched and will swallow the pill in a second. Release and give a treat or follow with food, good idea to mix a little bit of wet food in water and get them to drink some just in case the pill is stuck.

I should have added..this is for those horrible tasting liquids..can we just squirt them in there? Yes, but why make it rough on the cat when you can treat them as you treat them..and don't forget pill pockets I use them every day without so much as a nod. the cats love them as treats! Everybody's happy! :)

get a feeding syringe, drain a can of tuna, and after you squirt the meds in the corner of the mouth, follow it with a squirt of tuna water.

You can make some tuna water by mashing a can of tuna into a cup of water and keep it in the frig.

BTW this is only used for cats you cannot dose another way as SG is high carb. However, if your cat is too stressed to dose other ways it is a tradeoff to avoid over-stressing. Use it sparingly and just enough to mask the meds. You can syringe it in with the meds being careful not to pump it down their throats. There is always a risk of aspiration using food in a syringe and pneumonia can follow.

SG is 21% cabs so again...just enough. I have never found anything that can mask meds the way SG does. I usually mix it with a little FF fish to cut the carb amount and still maintain that smelly aroma cats love.

This is for liquid meds. And if you cannot master pilling or use pill pockets then crush the meds and mix with the food.

Most of us know these things so it is intended for those just starting as a primer if need be.
