Help For Diarrhea: Inulin vs Psyllium Husk?

My Cat has been having diarrhea. My vet said to use Metamuscil, but the tasteless one has inulin and not
psyllium husk. Which is better for a diabetic cat? Thanks.

According to this site : http://www.metamucil.com.au/benefits_fibresure_faq.php the inulin naturally has sugar, so I would probably not choose that ...

Hi, I was just wondering did your vet tell you to add fiber because of the diarrhea or did your kitty develop diarrhea after you added the extra fiber? Usually fiber is added for hairballs or constipation. At this point, I would be more concerned about the diarrhea since cats can quickly become dehydrated or lose electrolytes.I use a small dose about a quater tablet of immodium on one of my kitties. For now you might want to stop giving extra fiber and get the loose stools treated.

Psyllium can actually be used as a bulking agent for diarrhea. Psyllium is a source of fiber and helps stop diarrhea by drawing moisture out of the colon and stool.

When used for constipation the bulking encourages lower intestinal contractions.

I could see how fiber might work on minor or occassional cases...like an intestional sponge.However, if it is caused by a bacterial infection or potassium imbalance, then fiber wouldn't treat the underlying cause.I assume happycat's vet ruled that out. Older cats (and people for that matter) can become dehydrated very quicky.
