Hello Everyone, I am looking for help re-homing my two cats. I live in the province of Quebec. Re-homing my pets is something I never expected to do, so if you do not have anything helpful to say, please keep all negative comments to yourself. On top of other personal reasons, my new job which involves shift work has made schedule both unpredictable and difficult to work around.
Both cats are neutered males and are up to date on their vaccines. The 6 year old cat, named Fatboy, was diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago. He eats hard glucosupport food and recieves 5 units of insulin 2x per day (Lantus) - following this treatment plan, his diabetes has stayed under control. My 1 year old cat, named Atticus, does not have diabetes, but due to his close relationship with the older cat, I would like to try and re-home them together. The two of them are both very affectionate and have upbeat personalities. I am willing to re-home them separately if absolutely neccessary, but only after ensuring that the older diabetic cat has found a good forever family.
If you have any helpful tips or if you or someone you know would be interested in adopting, please message me. I would supply the new owner with the initial treatment supplies, their litter boxes and food, and their cat tree (as they love it and it would make them feel safe). THANK YOU!

I'm so sorry you need to re home them,
Just in case members want to know what insulin is he on
Where do you live
What are your cats names
I know it must be difficult for you to come to this decision
One thing can you take down the GA in your title it means Gone Ahead
Kitties who have passed.
I wish you luck

If you're in the US (+ possibly Canada?), one organization that might be able to help is Diabetic Cats in Need (DCIN), although it's always tough to re-home diabetic cats :(. @Chris & China (GA) may know more.

If you feel comfortable mentioning your location here (please keep it general, at least in the open forum), there might be others with suggestions. Who knows, you might get super lucky and find a home that way...

I know you're posting to look for a new home for your kitties, not necessarily advice about continuing to manage the diabetes, but I have to mention that 5U is a large dose for a cat. I'm glad he's doing well with it. Which insulin are you using?

I wish you the best of luck. It's a terribly difficult situation.

Thank you for your advice! I have updated my post to include the information you mentioned (all super important)

Thank you for your advice! I did send a message to the diabetic cats in need group on Facebook but with no luck so far. I am hoping my post here and the number of shares on Facebook help me find them a good home. They are the most loving little guys! 5 units is a lot, but that's the dose that was needed to bring his sugar down. His levels are currently at the lower range of normal and the units are expected to decrease over time :)

There's only a 1% chance we could take them but I'll keep an eye on this thread. One idea might be to think this out in reverse, maybe there's someone moving your way who is looking to adopt. We used to look for older cats, three legs and missing an eye but it's not easy and people need to think twice before doing it. We have five males right now, three were abused, we have my 94 year old mother in law and there is one and maybe two old dogs coming soon. Sorry, we just don't have the room.
It's a longshot but I could send you addresses of our local vets and shelters. You won't know until you ask right?
There's no judgment here. Years ago I adopted a large dog and it was a big mistake, not something I'm proud of. Whatever your reason is you'll see we don't shame people here. I wish you and your boys the luck they deserve.
