Help! Diabetes & P-titis causing high #’s?

I am so worried about my little one and pretty defeated right now.
He has chronic pancreatitis, possible IBD and diabetes, but he’s been in remission from the diabetes for 1 year.

He had a pancreatitis flare in June (ER visit), one in July, and he’s in the middle of a third one now, the result of a stressful vet visit.

Usually his BG goes up a little into the 200’s during a flare & then down again, staying between 80 and 125 once symptoms are gone. So I’ve not had to re-start the insulin.

During this current flare I havent been able to control his diarrhea with probiotics, so his vet put him on Budesonide, 0.5 mg./day.
He started it Wednesday, so he’s had 5 doses. I took his BG this a.m. and his numbers were 365 & 395.

I was shocked, then panicked. His regular vet isn’t in on weekends, and I am not sure what I should be doing. He looks & acts normal, but has been super hungry (which might be the appetite stimulant I had to start him on last week when the pancreatitis flare started.)
I feed him 6 smaller meals throughout the day instead of 3 bigger meals, I’m not sure if I should keep taking blood glucose readings? I’m not sure what to do.
I am hoping someone has some thoughts and wisdom on this, maybe some experience?
I need some help.
Thanks,
Scout & Susan

Keep testing him ...unfortunately, while most cats handle Budesonide OK, some can't and it'll raise the BG

If he requires it to treat the diarrhea, you may have to go back on insulin if he continues to need it.

A short period of time in higher numbers shouldn't cause too many problems but of course if they don't come down when you D/C the medication (or he has to stay on it to control the diarrhea), all you can do is resume the insulin

Sheba used to get episodes of pancreatitis when she was in remission and would have raised BG levels for a couple of days then it would go down again but she was never on Budesonide. She eventually fell out of remission.
I would keep testing the BG levels and feed several smaller meals during the day/night. It’s good he is eating.

Thank you for your reply. I was worried about him having higher numbers and if there’d be some damage to him because of it, until we get it sorted out.

Chris and Bron, thank you for the replies. I will keep testing him and give it a few
days - then will get in touch with his vet if #’s don’t improve, see what she thinks about discontinuing the Budesonide.
