So, I'm finally putting my foot down and moving Tips sister over to canned food. I've been too much of a softie with her. She isn't diabetic, but she is overweight, and I imagine at risk for it. My outdoor Frankie is on it, Tip is, due to diabetes, on canned food. It'd be easier on my wallet and better for her.
But she's so prideful. About as stubborn as I am. I've tried pretty much everything past just not giving in and having her learn it's that or the highway. Now....she took about 5-6 bites of the canned food I set out for her. But I'm concerned, how little is too little food? I don't want her to starve or lose too much weight too quickly, but I do want to switch her over.

Yeah, but even when it's mostly dry food, she's been refusing because the wet food touched it. ): Right now I'm trying to transition her slowly and....still not working. I've tried various brands and flavors too. I don't think I've seen that link for transitioning a cat, but right after I finish cooking my dinner, I'll give it a good look.

It can take time, that's for sure. My civvie, Nipper, is a very picky eater and I had to try just about every kind of low carb food to find 5-6 flavors she'll eat. I went cold turkey with her as Scout was getting into the dry food and it was messing with her BG. Some days I would have to try three different cans to find something she'd eat. Most days now she eats what she's given, but some days she just turns her nose up and Scout gets two bowls of food to herself. She's lost maybe a pound in the past 6 months, so I know she's not starving. :) The best thing I've found is mixing the food with a tablespoon or so of piping hot water to make it more stinky and therefore, somehow, more appealing. I do a rotation on the food too so they're not getting the same food for more than 2 meals in a row.

It is super expensive, but try the Blue Buffalo brand duck flavor. Both my cats go freaking crazy for it! I give it as a once a week treat and feed it when someone's not eating for whatever reason also.

Good luck and keep us posted!

She's also a prideful little thing. She'll growl when I help her up somewhere because my policy is, if they try several times and keep failing to jump up somewhere, I'll help them up. But then she looks thankful when nobody else but me is looking.

Yeah, I think that's part of the problem with Tip, yet another reason to switch her. So I don't have to worry about Tip getting in to the dry food and I can save whats left for if she'll ever go really low. I've never tried the mixing it with hot water. I've definitely tried heating it up so it stinks up the whole house, but I have to let it cool a little

Where could I get the Blue Buffalo?

I'll try. :) At least she did have a little bit. I'm going to try giving her some more in a bit.

The only chain store I've seen that has the Blue is Petco. They have a whole aisle of healthy cat food actually. The Wellness brand Turkey and Salmon is another big hit with my crew.

Alright, I'll definitely have to look in to it. There's a petco near my brothers work, and I need to get some flea shampoo as a last hurrah to get rid of my major flea infestation. I've tried pretty much everything else. At least they all love water.

it took awhile for my civvie molly to transition she is a little priss too
she would stick her tongue out and literally tap the food with the very tip of her tongue and walk away, i cant even tell you how many cans i once had open at one time.
once she was switched she eats almost everything....she loves wellness chicken and wellness turkey.

give it time!

Yeah, she's making progress finally. I think it's because she realized that I'm not giving in this time. XD She's at ~90% dry, 10% wet, by next week I'm hoping to up her % of wet by 10 percent.
