Hi Deb,
I'd also like to point you and your vet to another resource if you haven't already found it.
http://epiincats.webs.com/apps/forums/show/15219408-general

This is an offshoot of a very, very well known site called www.EPI4Dogs.com
They have a forum similar to this one with very helpful people.

I'd like to mention that (in dogs at least) it is VERY important to also give B-12 and Antibiotics (for SIBO - which is a bacterial overgrowth in the intestines) along with the enzymes. You can ask about that on their forum to make sure your kitty is getting everything she needs.

Sending :bighug::bighug::bighug: and best wishes!![/QUOTE

yes i ahev read thru both these sites ...learned alot and from german shepherds who get this alot. the water intake etc all seemed to resolve in 1 week similiar to dogs. basically her high food intake, water intake and no insulin now all resolved in 1 week a learnign curve for the vet...hope it helps other kittys if she has this issue with her other patients..

thanks so much...

an yes i agree she is on b12 once a week for a month, then every 2 weeks . we will check her levels and prob keep on giving it once a month if needed. the SIBO not sure she has it, seems ok accept for teh episode yesterday from teh potatoe starch. returning all the food with that in it . have a beautiful day

totally agree... my cats always seem to get the rarest diseases ever, this one also has this odd disease of the eyes which is 1 in 2 billion chances ...but her eyes seems to have healed that too. opthalomogist we had has only heard of one case online ...crazy.. what is is is she will get small dot on each eye exactly in the same spot on both eyes and its actually a tiny hole... can't remember the name of the disease. but it went away after many drugs , but doc said she needed to be on them for life. and at 600.00 a month uggg it was nice that it went away... have a lovely afternoon

Hi Deb, good to hear from you!

79 is really good number, but I am confused about her insulin taking schedule - I thought you were giving the injections at around 3:30 Pm. I hope that the 79 is her "constant, natural " number however the cumulative nature of Lantus, it's depot style acting must be taken in to consideration. Lantus accumulates in the body and releases thru the day. The larger the depot - as one you have created by adding another shot - would have effect on the BG numbers for several cycles to come even if she is off insulin. Might be good to monitor. To get the best possible result from Latus therapy is to keep it 12 hours apart, not to shoot at a certain number when it is higher than usual.

I am so glad you know how to handle it! The only thing I am not sure you heard of is that often after lowering too much a bouncing might occur - natural body response to being too low. I hope SOMEONE ELSE WITH BETTER UNDERSTANDING of the whole picture here will read and correct me but that bouncing might bring higher numbers. At least it applies to a lot of kitties.

I hope you don't mind me asking - but how long after that 2nd injection did she fell to 32? You shoot the 2nd time at 7:50 PM EST, might I ask how much have you fed and how soon after the drop took place? It is learning process for many here and as I mentioned yesterday - someone else also used the 2nd shot technique on that day, so it might come very handy to learn the statisticif we are to see more of that.
I wish your kitty all the best :bighug:. There are many on this board in similar circumstances - the Main Health Forum is also high traffic and if you post specific question - either the enzymes or weight gain help - you'll hear from people who achieved success. Best of luck to you!

her numbers where fine after the extra insulin shot.. when i gave the 2nd shot it was a reduced amt. but her numbers remained fine. i gave her her regular dose when her bs was 125 after 12hrs..and at 6 hrs nadir her number dropped to 32. ... my husband was supposed to take it earlier but he forgot..thank God she was ok..i was not too happy with him, as i never leave the house and dont trust anyone because of her sicknesses..but it was my dads birthday. he was horrified when i called him and said take her bs ... because shows so high he thought it was fine. he said he should have listened to me.. i am aware of the jumps and dips and told him this could happen.. but its cool I'm just glad she's ok and trust me it wont happen again. as of 2:14 pm she does not need insulin i am taking it every 4 hrs and still remains in that area. the last time she had insulin was 2:30pm yesterday which is over 24 hr. but i know it can also bounce and i am watching ..hopefully she is back in remission because all her weird symptoms from the pancreatic insufficiency have subsided, her drink and eating drive have gone back to normal as well as not needing insulin. funny it all happened the same time... such a learning curve even for my vet who has never seen this in cats or dogs..which is very rare in cats but its seems to be popping up more lately because vets are missing it. have a great day and thanks for your concern yu all are wonderful bless you all

That's probably the most important. If kitties eat well, stay hydrated their little bodies can reverse many adverse conditions - unlike beans. Glad you are testing.
Keep us posted Deb, as we are wishing both health and happiness and ready to help should you need it!:bighug:

hello, to answer ur question about time when it cause the drop to 32.. it didnt happen till tues the 18th days later...so we are not dealign with a normal diabetic cat here ....idont know bu it has something to do with her pancreas and the enzymes that she is taking. some days she needs no insulin and others she needs a full unit twice a day. like today she os high again. she was low 80's for days then it shoots back up to over 200 and needs insulin again. it doesnt make any sense and i believe its these enzymes especially the amylase which is a sugar . her body is reacting to it differently every day. she is taking the same amt every day and is eating a very low carb food weruva chicken ...so it is strange. i have written to a women in an EPI cats website who also has a cat with pancreas issue and diabetes. i will share what she tells me as soon as i hear back . take care and thank u
