I posted a thread earlier today in the more general health forum and some other members suggested I post it here for more help. Please go to this link to see the thread. Thanks in advance for any help. viewtopic.php?f=28&t=31394

Welcome to the group. I just finished reading your original thread - Wow. And it warms my heart to see how quickly so many people jumped in to help out. FDMB rocks!

With the diet change, I'd certainly consider starting over at a much lower dose. How often are you able to monitor Casanova?

On days off, anytime. On work days obviously just in the mornings and then after work. Not optimal, but the best I can do.

I would drop the dose back, but how much to drop will depend on your comfort and your availability to monitor. Whatever dose you choose, my advice would be to test, test, test over the next few days. The data will help you know whether Cassanova's dose is too high or two low, and should shed some light on how far over or under dose he might be.

The number this morning wasn't bad, it was just a surprise. The fact that you just changed his diet makes things unpredictable, so reducing the dose is a good safety measure. Since he has done well on that dose for a long time, I don't know that you need to reduce by a ton, but there isn't enough data to say for sure.

Has Cassanova ever had ketones?

Welcome to Lantus Land, Laura!

Not having a history of ketones is good. I would still test for ketones when his numbers are high, you never know when kitties will start throwing ketones.

Libby has given you good advice, I will add that it would be great if you would post here daily...that way you can get help with his numbers and ask any questions you might have. There's a ton of info here, and a lot of friendly folks that can share their experience and support. Also, visit other people's condos (threads) and their spreadsheets when you have time...you can learn a lot from that.

You should read the stickies at the top of the forum, starting with the "New to the Group" sticky. It will help you get up to speed quickly. Sorry to be brief, but it's late and I need to get some sleep. I look forward to seeing you here!
