HELP! 1st Curve

Hey y'all, hubby and I are doing Punkin's 1st Curve today. We do still have 1 more to do to complete the 12hr cycle but we're anxious for feedback.
He was diagnosed 12/20 so we're new. Started testing 12/28 evening. No Vetsulin given since 12/28 A.M.
Feel free to check his SS for other numbers, but so far the curve(every 2 hrs.) Have been;
9:50 A.M. 77
11:55A.M. 65
2:00 P.M. 75
4:00 P.M. 87
6:00 P.M. 74
8:00 P.M. 76
10:00 P.M. TBD

We initially took him to the vet with symptoms of drinking and peeing buckets and visible weight loss. His BG there was approximately 380ish. RX Vetsulin 2U 2xa day which we gave up once beginning to test at home Tuesday evening and getting an 87 (Relion Classic and 25g lancet)

Switched diet from free fed Purina Cat Chow Indoor Formula to low carb wet on day of DX.

Was he misdiagnosed? Did the diet change reverse him THAT quickly? I'm SO confused! And SO thankful we started home testing AMA or he almost certainly would have gone hypoglycemic.

Well, Punkin is in normal numbers now!

Do you know if the vet got a blood sample for a fructosamine test when Punkin was diagnosed? The test is similar to a human, hemoglobin A1c in that it gives an average blood glucose (BG) over the past 3 week period. It's helpful in that a cat can become stressed at the vet's office and the stress inflates the BG numbers. In addition, the diet change is having a positive effect.

Frankly, I would continue to get your AMPS and PMPS readings for another week. If the numbers stay the way they are, your cat would be in remission. However, I would stick to a low carb, canned food diet. A cat that is in remission is still a diet controlled diabetic.

If he is in remission that would be great. If not you're all set up except for one thing, Vetsulin is an old school insulin meant for dogs. There are better choices but for now count yourself lucky. Wishing you continued good luck.

Thanks! And yeah, we learned about the Vetsulin after his DX and being sent home with it. We were planning to ask for a switch but it doesn't seem necessary at this point.
