My cat, Tigger, male neutered 12.5 years old was diagnosed Aug 2021 with diabetes. Back story is, he was slightly bold and prone to fighting, his visits to the vet were usually as a result of skin infections due to skin wounds from fighting and prompt administration of antibiotics was usually required. Due to unavailability of appointment at my regular vet I went to a different vet who commented on his weight, she suggested a diet food, which I started immediately, within a week to 10 days he became lethargic and had laboured breathing, I brought him back to my regular vet and they said heart and lungs were fine, so they could check for diabetes, urine was positive and subsequently bloods, he started on insulin, which was gradually increased but he has gone steadily downhill since, I wonder if anyone has experienced anything similar? Thyroid has been tested twice and is fine.

Hi and welcome to the forum Fionnuala and Tigger.
I am sorry Tigger is not doing well.

Can you tell me what type of insulin he is on and the dose please?.

What type of food are you feeding him now? And how often?

When you say he has gone down hill, can you describe the symptoms please?

Did anyone suggest testing him for ketones in the urine? I would suggest you buy a bottle of Ketostix from Walmart or a pharmacy and collect a urine sample from Tigger and test the urine, making sure you read the result against the colours on the side of the bottle at exactly 15 seconds. It is a simple test and there should be no ketones in the urine at all.

Do you have a copy of his blood results? If so could you post them please?
