I'd like to introduce myself: I am Cheryl Lynn and we have just found out that our Maine Coon Cat, Bella, is diabetic. This is all new to us and we have had so much help from other diabetic cat owners already. Thanks especially to Venita with Diabetic Cats in Need! She is saving our cats life! But I have SO MUCH to learn and am excited that there are others through FDMB that can help us! Thanks for all of you being here!

Welcome Cheryl Lynn and Bella to the FDMB family.

Looking forward to learning all about you and of course your extra sweet Bella. If you have already met Venita, then you got a good start on things. Just read as much as you can on this sight and ask all the question you like. Somebody is just about always around to answer and thing that you might think of.

You have found the best place in the world to help you. Be sure to read all about hypos and be ready for that. It saved my cat's life. Also read all the posts that you can with the topics from newbies. That will help so much. Each time i read some posts, i picked up something else that i had not seen before.

Be sure to get your profile written and start a spreadsheet so that the readers know more about your cat's individual information. More experienced people will post here soon to give you more help. Start a notebook and print out what you find so you can always refer back to that information. I printed out so much and read over it numerous times so that it was internalized as much as possible. This is a great board!

Thanks for all the well-wishes. Yes I am learning so much! I have a new-great friend, Pam H. that has been so helpful to me. Her cat Murphy has had diabetes for 11 years! Bella will be on Lantus as vet has just confirmed she does have diabetes. Thanks again Venita with Diabetic Cats in Need! I can't even believe God sent you to rescue our BELLA! I am overwhelmed by your generousity and help in EVERY WAY!!! It is because of you that Bella has a second chance at life. I truly believe that. Someday soon, I hope to be in a better way financially so I can give back to DCIN as to help others that may be in the very same situation as we were.

Blessings,
Cheryl Lynn Moore

Cheryl,

I didn't know that Pam's Murphy is 11 years diabetic. That's awesome.

Cheryl, I am only one of the facilitators for help from DCIN. It is many of the marvelous people here, and others involved with diabetic cats and DCIN, who provide the resources to help dear, sweet Bella and you. But thanks for the thanks. It makes my heart warm to know that the work I put into DCIN helps.

And, sure, DCIN will be here to help you pay it forward when you get to that point.

Thanks then to all the DCIN facilitators! Yes Pam said that Murphy is 19 years old which is a record in age alone but combine that with her diabetes and I'm sure she might be a contendor for the Guiness Book of World Records. Murphy is her baby as she bottle fed her from birth. Pam H. is an amazing woman. I marvel when I hear her tell of all the care she has given to Murphy so that she would live a wonderful, healthy, and long life! Thanks DCIN!!!
