Welcome Furrest Mama, you are in the right place, we will be more than happy to get your Forest to a healthy start, there are a few thing you should know about a cat with diabetes, at first it is overwhelming when you find out, then worry about how to do this, with our help we will get it figured out, we do need to learn more about Forest, below there is a link so you can set up your signature and to create a spreadsheet for him, are you home testing? what insulin and how much dose are you giving, are you feeding kibbles or can wet food? a diabetic cat should eat wet can food between 0-10% carbs, kibbles and treats contain between 25-35% carbs that cats cannot digest, therefore it beats the purpose of insulin or healing pancreas, also below there will be a Drs Food chart that contains many food brands, the third column contains the % of carbs for each food, most of us member enjoy the Fancy Feast Pates, You should have at hand what it's called a HYPO KIT, this will contain Karo Syrup or honey, some medium carb foods between 11-15% carbs and some High Carb food between 16-24%, in case his Bg drops 50 or below, in the meantime open the three links and create your signature so we can get to work with you, and do not worry we have all been right where you are right now, no concern is too small to ask if you have any trouble creating your signature, or creating the spreadsheet let us know, The Main Forum has a lot of valuable information as well, Welcome, continue posting your concerns on this thread title so we are all on the same page:bighug::cat::cat:

I can see from this post you are giving vetsulin. Can you tell me what is the dose of the vetsulin please?
If the blood glucose is dropping so far you had to give syrup, the dose is too much.
With vetsulin you need to feed 30 minutes before you give the insulin as vetsulin is a harsh insulin and hits fast.

Are you testing the blood glucose (BG) at home yourself?
If not I would recommend you do and then you will know what is happening.
You can buy a ReliOn premier meter from Walmart cheaply and you will also need test strips to go with the meter.
Also a box of 100 lancets size 26 or 28 to prick the ear.
And some cotton balls to hold behind the ear when testing.
If you are hometesting you don’t need to go to the vet for a curve, you can do it at home.

The routine is to test the BG, feed if the BG is high enough to test, wait 30 minutes and then give the insulin.
In regard to food. Please feed a good meal before giving insulin every time and then you can give 2 or 3 snacks during every cycle…that is both during the morning and the evening. A snack is a teaspoon or two of low carb food.
And I would suggest giving the snacks 2 hours and 4 hours after each dose of insulin…that is +2 and +4

What type of food are you feeding?
Is it dry or canned? Is it low carb or high carb?
Keep asking questions. We can help you get sorted.
