Hey everyone! Well, I just did my first fluids tonight. I don't think I would have made it without DH! It went pretty fast but Thumper didn't want to cooperate...of course! She's doing better but has had a couple of bad days. Everytime I think I'll go back to sleeping in my bed instead of on the couch with her she pulls something else. She seemed to be ok today & DH said her saw her getting a snack around 2:00 but right after PMPS but before she ate she threw up some clear liquid. I gave her some nausea med then did the fluids and got her to eat some baby food so I could get her insulin in. She needs to give me a break cause I've got a ton of things to do this week. Thank goodness we are having a scaled down Christmas this year!

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hang in there. Frustrating as cats are, they're worth the aggravation and she knows you're trying to make her feel better. Still praying for ya'll.

Hey thanks for the update. Well she's still being Thumper isn't she. Good for you for giving the fluids, I'm still terrified of having to do it.

We still have all fingers and paws crossed here that the Lantus agrees with her.

I HATED giving fluids. I found that using Terumo needles helped, and warming the fluids seemed to make a considerable difference in how much Squamee objected. Good luck and hang in there!

You are giving Harley fluids aren't you?

For some odd reason I'm having a hard time drawing the Lantus out of the pen. I keep getting a lot of air in the syringe so I had DH watch me to see if he could figure out what I was doing wrong....well, of coure I didn't have any trouble that time.

I just ordered some of those Terumo Ultra Thin Wall needles tonight & I tried to warm the bag up by putting it in the sink with some warm water but it still didn't seem warm so I guess I didn't leave it there long enough. Thanks for the suggestions!

So good to hear from you!
Glad thumper is doing a little better
How are her numbers on Lantus...I hope better.
Bless you for doing the fluids, I dont know if I could do that!
Hang in there!

I think I kept the fluids in very hot water for 20-30 minutes. I also tried wrapping them in a heating pad, but the hot water was less cumbersome.

Barbara,
Good luck with the fluids. I had a cat that had thyroid and kidney problems that I gave fluids. It went better than I ever dreamed it could. If it was Alex, well, that's another story. There's not enough calming collars in the world.

I hope Thumper is getting better numbers on the Lantus.
Giving fluids sounds really scary to me, but guess its something you have to get used to just like giving shots and hopefully it will get easier for you with time. Sounds like your doing a good job.
I hope things will settle down for both you and Thumper soon and wishing you happy holidays!
