Susan & Buffalo

Hi Everyone,
My cat Buffalo was diagnosed in January after a dramatic weight loss. My husband and I are doing a trio of blood glucose tests today. We managed the first one, but it was tough. I want to learn how to do this solo and then teach hubby. I think it will be less stressful for Buffy this way. Does anyone have any tips for doing this? I used to do spot checks on my cat Tosh about 10 years ago but he was easier to mess with.
Buffalo is currently on 3 units of Lantus twice a day. The majority of the food he eats is Fancy Feast classic. He also eats a little Fancy Feast dry. I am looking at Blue Buffalo grain free as an alternative to the FF dry. We have 5 cats total so we are on budget. Buffy's fasting glucose was 266.
I'm glad this board is here. We have a good vet who believes in home testing so I think between him and all of you out there we can get my buy in good shape.
Thanks everyone,
Susan
