Hi My name is Jackie and my cats name is Miss Smooch, she is a rescue and between 14/15 diagnosed 2 weeks ago with diabetes, luckily I am a nurse so not nervous about the injections if only she would stay still lol.

We are using prozinc and hills prescription diabetic diet and already she looks better and seems much happier.

Hi Jackie, welcome to FDMB from another UKer (in Surrey). You are off to a good start by being a nurse and ok with injections. Do read as much as you can on this site and familiarise yourself with other members' experience of treating FD... we always recommend that you test your kitty's BG at home with a normal human glucometer to make sure that pre-shot numbers are ok to actually give insulin - not sure if you are doing that at the moment? If not there is loads of support here. You might also like to look at wet food alternatives to the Hill's - am presuming this is the dry? - as there are more carbs in dry food so kitties usually do better on wet.

Keep reading and posting, you will find so much support here!

I looked at the dry wet food when I first started, Smooch was already on hills prescription i/d as she had a sensitive stomach and was being sick a lot and has done well on it, albeit slightly fat, Vet suggested hills d/m dry and she is doing well at present on it but going in next week for days so they can check her bm for the day. Nobody suggested a bm machine didn't realise I could use a human machine till I read on here. Looking at the carbs on the dry food its a low carb high protein food as she needs to loose weight but specific to diabetic and weight management.

Scotland! Question please. My wife is Scottish/Irish, which part of her heritage enables her to shoot fire from her eyes? Maybe this is why I'm always the one to put gas in the car. Toss the caber!
