Hi everyone,
My cat Psychi was just diagnosed with diabetes but also has asthma. I'm trying to get information and get both conditions under control. My vet seems pretty clueless about either of these diseases and am looking for suggestions for veterinarians in Albuquerque. Anyone here from the area? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Post a new thread in Feline Health about asthma, you're not the only one. I can't say for sure, don't think we have any members in NM. Try a vet college for a list of vets with additional training. Although diabetes should be mandatory education sadly it doesn't seem to be. Clueless vets are everywhere. Welcome to the club.

Hi there, Nevylyn and Psyche,
I'm Michal, catmum of Italix, who was diagnosed last year at about age 8. I'm also in Albuquerque and I've been taking her to TLC Cat Hospital and seeing Dr. Beth James.
She's been pretty supportive and seems fairly knowledgeable about diabetes in cats.
I've been giving Italix first Vetsulin and now Lantus glargine, feeding mostly Friskies and Fancy Feast pates, but I have another cat much younger who sometimes gets dry food too (and Italix sometimes finds some around the bowl) - I worry about both of their dental hygiene - and Italix has already been thru major dental $urgery and extraction$. I'd really like to be able to give Italix something dry occasionally to help clean her teeth but not sure what's best.
We're needing to refill the Lantus and I'm really concerned about the price, but from reading about human patients forced to switch to other forms and generics, and suffering, reacting and finding their levels swinging mightily,
I think I may stick with the Lantus.
