Hi all! I'm Emily, mom to brothers (littermates) Cosmo and Lockwood, black Main Coons. They're just over 10 years old, I adopted them when they were about 4 or 5 months old. Lockwood is the fat one - a hefty 25 pounds. He was diagnosed with Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) several years ago and as a result they're both eating Hill's Prescription Science Diet Urinary Tract Formula C/D. After the initial bout, and a relapse (because of stress), he hasn't had any problems since.

Cosmo is half Lockwood's size--he's been 12 pounds for years... I call him my tiny kitty, but everyone laughs at me because he's still so long, tall, and his tail still comes almost up to counter level! Over the last year, he's dropped weight. He quickly dropped to 11.3 pounds, then lately has been wavering between 10.5 and 11.5. Anything under 11.5, and you can tell he's too skinny (his vet agrees). He's currently at 11.

Cosmo was diagnosed with diabetes just before Christmas--because he's had a sore on his back that took forever to heal. He started on insulin at the beginning of January, 2 units twice a day. I just took him in for a curve on 1/26 and his numbers are still ridiculously high (in the 400s). The vet had me up it to 3 units twice a day.

I'm going to invest in a glucometer this week so that I can start home testing. I have this gut feeling that his stress level at the vet is affecting his numbers. I'd like to be able to test at home to see if my theory is correct.

I've already learned so much by lurking here. Here goes learning some more!
Profile pic is the rare snuggle time between my boys! :)
