Healing Vibes Needed For New Foster Kitty: UPDATE :-)

Collected new foster kitty from the vet this morning. He seems to have some kind of problem with his back legs and possibly his pelvis.
He is, so far, unable to pee or poop on his own. (The vet has had to express pee and poop.)

The kitty has come home with us so he can relax a bit, and so we can monitor him in a more normal environment. He's had painkillers/anti-inflammatories etc, and is on lactulose to try to keep things moving through his system. But everything hinges on him being able to pee and poop by himself. If he can't do this soon he will likely be PTS.

He seems fine in himself so far, and is currently playing with a little catnip mouse! (Bless him...)

There is a lady who really wants to adopt him (I think she found him after his owners moved house and abandoned him), so he has a loving home waiting for him as soon as he is well enough to go there. I so hope this works out for him...

Please, if you have a moment, send some healing and 'independent peeing/pooping vibes' his way. I know 'the power of the board' can sometimes work wonders....

Awww - poor baby having so many problems. And so lucky to have landed on his feet by being fostered by you! :)

I really hope that being in a normal environment will help him to get better quickly so he can go to his new home. Isn't it amazing how even when they're sick they'll play and seem happy - hopefully that's a good sign that he can and will recover!

Tons and tons of peeing/pooping vines for the little guy - I really hope he can get over this and enjoy a long and happy life.

Spoke to the lady who's hoping to adopt him, and found out more of his story.
She had started to put food out for him after her neighbours abandoned him. But last Tues afternoon she found him in the garden unable to walk. He was pulling himself around by his front legs with his back legs dragging behind him. He was scared, and managed to get himself under a hedge where she couldn't reach him to get him out. Hence her calling the RSPCA and him formally ending up in their care. When I brought him here yesterday he was able to walk, with just a slight limp in one of his back legs. So it sounds like he has made quite a recovery already.

Just need poop now...:nailbiting:

It seems complicated.
He had an X ray at the vets and they saw that he had a pin in his leg from a previous surgery. However, part of the pin has now broken and moved, probably as a result of whatever happened to him on Tuesday (vet suspects he's been hit by a car). They're anticipating doing surgery to remove the broken part of the pin, but they don't want to do this until they've got a clearer idea of how the most recent accident has affected the rest of his body. At least I think that's what's going on. I get tiny pieces of the story (some of which contradict each other) and am trying to piece those together.....:confused:

Thanks so much, everyone, for the poop vibes. There was a rather splendid poop in the litter tray this morning. I was so pleased to see it that I was almost tempted to take a photo and post it here. :smuggrin:

Hopefully this means that his operation (to remove broken pin in his leg) can now go ahead.

Oh, that's fantastic! So happy for the little guy! Hope he can have his surgery now, and all goes well!
 
Whodda thunk we'd all be SO happy about cat poop? Well, I think we all are rooting for one another and we all know how much these things mean. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!! YIPPEE!!!!
Will wait for updates and keep the good vibes going! :)

PS: Just told hubby that there's POOP and he shook his head and said, "Yeah, I scoop it all of the time! Nobody wants to give ME a parade!" LOL ;)

He can have as many poop parades as he can bare to handle.

Took the little bloke to the vet last night for a check-up. The vet we saw was pleased with the general improvement in his condition, so that was good news.

She said that something did definitely have to be done about the wonky pin in his back leg, as it did seem to be causing problems. However, she didn't feel that she had the particular experience or expertise to do the surgery, or even to know exactly what surgery was needed.
She wondered about referring the kitty to an orthopedic specialist, but I pointed out that it would unlikely that the RSPCA would be able to fund that kind of specialist surgery. So she then thought that, alternatively, maybe they could send the X rays to the specialist for advice, and then her colleague (with a bit more experience of orthopedics) could do the operation. I got a message this evening to say the RSPCA have authorised funds for the latter option. And we are to book him in for the operation next week...

He is the sweetest, friendliest little cat, and I do so hope it all works out for him. Apparently he's only about 3 years old, so he still has a lot of living to do.

Just a quick update on the foster kitty, now called 'Riley'.
He had the operation on his leg. The vet removed a piece of metal rod about an inch long from his hip (close to the base of his spine). He recovered well from the operation, and the vet hopes Riley will recover more function in the leg as time goes on (he could hardly use it at all before the op).

And he has a forever home! The neighbours who first contacted the RSPCA about him have now adopted him. And I am confident that they will absolutely adore him.
I'm missing him. (He is the friendliest cat I've ever met). But I am thrilled that this story has ended well for him.

Awwww, I know you're heartbroken in some ways, but in others, your heart soars for the little guy. Being a foster is one of the most wonderful "jobs" in the world, but each one that makes a pit stop in our homes takes a little of our hearts with them when they move on to their furrever homes

Riley....you're truly a blessed kitty, you know that? Things started out pretty rough for you, but you won the kitty lottery twice already!! Once when you landed such a great foster home, and again when you got your forever home and beans to call your own for hopefully the rest of your life :bighug::bighug::bighug:
 
Oh, that's wonderful! I'm so glad to hear his surgery went well and the vet has high hopes for a great recovery, and just delighted that he now has a forever home with people who love him! I know it must be awfully hard to see him leave, but if he's going to live with a neighbor I hope you can still see him and visit with him from time to time! Thank you for rescuing him and seeing to it that he has such a bright future ahead of him! :bighug::bighug:
 
It's stories like this that renews my faith in happy situations. What a lovely outcome in every way! Such a great thing to read and brightened my day.
I know how hard it must have been to let go but...knowing that he's able to have a chance at more mobility again as well as having a permanent new family, has to be uplifting in some way to offset your own sense of "loss".
Thank you for sharing Riley's journey with us all! It's made me smile and feel good. :)
