Have I been dosing wrong?

The needles given to me by the vet were ideal instruments 0.5cc U-40 Insulin. The vet told me to fill to the very first line and said that would be a full dose but now that I am looking at the syringes they go up to 20 units am I over thinking or under dosing?

0.5cc U40 syringe holds 20 units of U40 (Vetsulin) insulin
0.3cc U40 syringe holds 12 units of U40 insulin

What numbers are marked on your syringe?

Do your syringes have half unit markings like both pics below or just full unit markings on the right side?

The first pic is a 0.5 cc/ml U40 syringe with half unit markings.

The second pic is a 0.3 cc/ml syringe labelled with full unit markers and half units in between.

Unfortunately since I am on my phone I won't be able to upload a picture but they are like the first one you uploaded but without the half marking.

So I see four lines and then a line with the #5 followed by four more lines and then a line with the #10 +four more lines and then #15 and finally four more lines then #20 and that's the end of the syringe.

Sounds like U40's with full unit markings only. So drawing to the first line will be 1.0 unit of U40 insulin.

Yes! Those are the ones I have! Thank you so much for your help, I have been drawing to the first line since he was prescribed 1 unit of Vetsulin and now with your help I am relieved that I was dosing correctly.
