Has/is anybody detoxed/detoxing a cat?

I personally have been detoxing using such things as teas, cilantro and parsley. The last two are natural chelator's that will remove heavy metals from ones system.
I was thinking the other day one of the biggest concerns we have with feeding our fury friends is the levels of mercury and other heavy metals that may be contained in the seafood that is in pet foods.

I saw one detox formula for felines in a natural food store. It contained diatomaceous earth and inosital. I know the earlier can cause constipation in humans. Not sure what it would do with a kitty. However in humans you take it pure and up to 2 heaping teaspoons.

I am curious if anybody is familiar with any herbs and other natural substances that are safe for felines which act as detoxifiers that can be added to the food.

Oh I know. Been here a while.
However heavy metals do not often leave on their own in our own bodies and are a direct cause of many health aliments in humans.
What I am looking to do is remove heavy metals and other toxins that may have been picked up in both the environment and processed cat food.
Remember GMO ingredients are also in the food you feed your pets. GMO has been linked to cancerous tumors.
And those foods even if you are grinding your own for our fury friends are not free from toxins and chemicals.

So the point being it is not only toxins from seafood that I am concerned about.

One of my cats was recently diagnosed with cancer and I am giving him turmeric (actually the extract, 'curcumin'). I'm also now giving a smaller amount to one of my cats who has mild arthritis. Anecdotal evidence (including my own!) shows it to be a powerful anti-inflammatory; and research has shown it to have anti-cancer properties. However, it is also reputed to a be a highly potent liver detoxifier and is used in the Ayurvedic system of medicine. I'm sure you will find lots of info about this on the internet.

Turmeric/curcumin is not toxic for cats, and some cats even like the taste of it. However it is contra-indicated if there is a history of liver/bile duct problems (it increases bile flow). And it should be stopped in advance of any operation because it can thin the blood and increase bleeding.

I know someone who gives all her cats a small therapeutic dose of curcumin in order to prevent health problems arising.

It is thought to have poor bio-availability on it's own, and so for good absorption it needs fat (it is fat soluble) or piperine/bioperine (black pepper extract). Up until now I've given it to my cats along with a few drops of fish oil or a little duck fat, but I've just bought a version that contains piperine as well and may well try that shortly once I've read up a bit more about piperine and cats (I understand that piperine can be a kidney irritant if too much is given).

I lost him to a tumor that was not there at his last physical. It appear in 3 months after going into remission.
I was fighting the tumor with Curcumin as well. You need to mix it with a tiny amount of olive oil.
Also you should add liquid Muscadine Grape and Meeker Raspberry Extract extract from Raspex http://raspex.com/ to your lineup along with liquid astragalus. http://www.iherb.com/Astragalus-Liquid
The Raspex goes a long way.
Also combine this with Transfer Factor Plus. http://www.4life.com/us/products/detail ... oupId=1135
You'll have to open the capsules and feed the transfer factor with an oral syringe.
The Raspex has phenomenal properties.
I was having success at shrinking Kitty's tumor. Unfortunately it came before he was fully physically recovered from the ravages of the diabetes. Time ran out.
I am convinced that the diabetes kept the tumor in check. Once his system returned to normal the cancer was able to get what it needed to grow.

I brought all the information to my holistic vet and explained what my plans were and what I was doing. I was a little ahead of the curve on the Raspex and got the green light on my approach.

Anything like that for humans has probably not been tested on cats and you are likely to poison your cat, not help. I would not risk doing anything of that sort. Cats are not small humans.

Quite possibly so.
Which is my reason for looking for research on the matter.

Diatomaceous earth for instance is inert. So it would not act as a poison. However its solid silicon and is like micro sized razor blades. I would be more concerned about what it could do to the digestive track in both humans and pets.

Turmeric/curcumin, as I said before, is also deemed to be a powerful detoxifier. Studies in rats have shown it has the ability to remove mercury from the liver amongst other things (although, cats are not 'large rats' any more than they are 'small humans').

I don't think you are going to find anything much other than anecdotal evidence that natural remedy 'x' or 'y' works in cats. (Most scientific studies are financed by people hoping to make some serious money at the end of said research). But anecdotal evidence can be really helpful: How many of us have used methyl B12 in our cats - to huge advantage - because of the anecdotal evidence of others who have done the same.

You could consider posting on DCC (Diabetic Cat Care). They are much more into supplements than we at FDMB are; and in particular they are more keen on supplements that help the liver, such as milkthistle. You will need to join that forum before you can read posts, but that may only take a day or less.

I used turmeric on kitty for the tumor. Funny I did not consider it for detox. I use curcumin regularly as a supplement for my self.
I'll check into the B12.
I also need to see if Cilantro and parsley are toxic to cats. Both are very powerful for pulling out heavy metals.

I'll check DCC. I was on another forum for cat diabetes once. It was very disappointing. No help what so ever. Seemed like their own personal click where new members were not appreciated.

I was just reading the ingredients list on Instinct Raw Daily Boost.
It contains Montmorillonite Clay. Its generally used internally for detox.

They are using it for anti caking.
However it should act as a source of detoxing in cats as well since the properties of the clay should not have changed for their claimed use in the food.
