Shea butter, huh? When she gets totally rid of this I'll give it a try somewhere else or in a different area, but right now the dr. said with this staph infection it has to be kept dry so it wouldn't work. Her problem is that she's a roly poly chubster and her mom, Cali, always took care of her but when cats clean themselves normally with their sandpaper tongues, they clean upwards and can keep the secretions from infecting. If you can picture a momma cat cleaning her newborn kittens anuses, that's what Racci needs to do to herself. Since Racci doesn't do that , and I can't get that rough with her cleaning her since I clean more than that little spot at a time, she gets infected.
This time she got a staph infection all around her bottom - by her anus, tail, vagina, just little sores. I had to keep her extra clean and use medicated powder plus she had AB on board. Also I caught her lying down in her litter box several times & have no doubt that's what gave her the infection even though I clean it constantly since it's in my bathroom & I'm always following her in there. She's just so chubby and has so much long fur in the way that she gets damp in her creases. I'm guessing some litter stuck to her. I don't know if the litter just felt good or if she's going senile or what! I called the vet and she couldn't figure out what that could mean either. She suggested maybe early mild senility. After a few lectures from me and having to get all washed and brushed which she hated, she stopped doing it.
Thankfully, it looks just about gone now but just in case, I'm keeping up the routine but I'm out of the powder and it was very expensive so need an alternative to keep her dry, maybe cornstarch. This was the first time she had something like this and I hope the last time. I am worried she might be building up to another anal gland problem though so may use the AB I have for that.
