when i relocated here in june, and inherited the Adoptocats from my sis, i noticed right away that Smudge had a round lump on her neck about the size of the tip of a pinky finger....seemingly attached to the inside of her skin. it never changed size and didn't seem sensitive and never migrated. i thought it was a cyst. Today, I noticed it had a dry beige colored piece protruding...so i put on gloves and pulled it out while massaging the lump. out came a piece of what looks like skin or fatty tissue...it's pale, with dark markings like her skin...bout half inch long and not quite as wide. the hole it came out of looks like hairless skin...no blood, no pus, no weeping and no smell, not sensitive at all. i put hydrogen peroxide on it.

with all the bills for annie's recent incident, and with binks' care...i really can't see taking her or the specimen to the vet...but any thoughts on what this might be?

Pauline has a lump on the back of her neck. Under the skin, about the size of a small chick-pea (garbanzo bean).

When I found her, I had the vet check it out and it is a benign skin cell thing...not cancerous.

Sorry, I forgot the whole technical name, I sent the vet records for Pauline on to Patricia.
"Amorphous" I think was one of the words applied to it.

It has never oozed though, nor broken through, while I had her.

If it is something you could pull out, I doubt it was a lipoma.

It might've been a dead bot fly larva, so old and dried it no longer had an abcess around it.

Live bot fly larva are totally gross!! We had a kitten which had one. We'd never seen it moving, just treated with peroxide until it was clear some sort of infection was going on. Took the kitten to the vet who pulled out out like a cork from a bottle. Big ick factor!

so glad to hear others have seen this...and i hear you on the bot flies...we see them all the time up on the ranch. i'm thinking its probably a benign cyst too...but didn't want to be an idiot and have it turnout to be something that compromised her health.

thanks for the input!
