What do you think of his numbers the past few days? He was starting to look good but now I’m getting amps and pmps in the high 200s ☹️ My vet wanted me to try with the two units of vetsulin twice daily and see what we get before moving to lantus. I was starting to feel optimistic the past few days but now the numbers are going up again. Could this be his body’s reaction to going under 100 BG a few days in a row? I will add that today’s amps and pmps was about 29 min after a meal. I couldn’t get him to cooperate before the meal because he’s always so excited to eat he won’t be still and he gets angry pretty quickly so I’m not able to test as frequently as I would like.

I believe what you're seeing is one of the issues with cats that are prescribed Vetsulin. The effects of Vetsulin typically wear off after between 8 - 10 hours. It is not designed to provide 12-hours of duration. Thus, numbers are high at shot time. I don't think this is a bounce from low numbers to high. I think it's simply a matter of the insulin wearing off before 12 hours. It's why Lantus (glargine) or Prozinc are better types of insulin for treating feline diabetes.

I agree that what you are seeing is most likely just that Vetsulin doesn't last that long in cats. His numbers are going up by shot time. He looks like a cat who could really do great, though, on ProZinc or Lantus.
