Hi all,

All in all Harley is in pretty good shape for a senior orinch boy. He has a slight kidney infection is pre HyperT but the worst thing are his toofies. He needs a dental with at least 1 extraction which I will schedule this month.

I'm hoping the dental improves his bg's.

This vet is amazing, when he was examining him he said he wasn't really an orinch boy that he was a tortie. I was impressed because Harley's momma was a fractous tortie.

I love, love, love the new vet.

oh Robin i could'nt be happier for you both. what i would'nt give for a vet to love!!!!
so..........Harley is NOT an orinch boy? he's a tortie???? i thought all torties were girl cats!
i'll call you tomorow ok.

That's great! I'm so happy for you! (I assume by orinch you mean orange? lol I'm still picking things up...)

That's wonderful to hear you found a good vet. How did you find her? Did you call and ask a bunch of questions first, or just make an appointment and hope for the best? Pediatricians and midwives/obs always offer free "get-to-know-you" appointments. I wonder if vets ever do that?

I knew all calicos are girls, is a tortie the same?

I meant to post a much more complete update but I was exhausted after a long Friday.

I heard about this clinic through the grapevine, I first heard about them last summer, then again this fall, so looked it up online and really liked with I saw so I called and talked to the tech/aide and asked alot of questions about their views and protocol on Feline Diabetes which she answered in detail and I liked them even more. It took me a few weeks to make the appt.

Harley is definately a big orinch (orange) boy, but the vet saw tell tale signs of his tortie heritage, his feline mama was a fractous tortie. Yes, tortie's are always girls and true orinches are almost always boys.

The Dr. gave Harley a very in depth exam and explained what he was looking for and how it related to a senior diabetic cat. He answered all of my questions and explained how and why everything was related and how it all worked. I was treated like the intelligent human bean that I am instead of a dumb a$$.

His views and beliefs on diet and nutrition are the same as Dr. Lisa's whom he knows. He believes in a raw diet because cats are obligate carnivores. Dr. R and Gator may be kindred spirits. I will now start weighting Harleys food and keeping track of his weight.

Harley's teeth are not good and are the first thing I need to take care of. He needs at least one extraction and cleaning. After the dental Dr. R will re-evaluate his other issues and we'll go from there. I'm hoping that the dental will improve Harley's bg's even more. If it doesn't I will be switching to Lantus as that is the only insulin Dr. R uses.

All in all I'm thrilled to have found this clinic and feel comfortable with Dr. R and his staff. What more can I ask for.

I'm off to have breakfast with my dad. I'll check back in later.

Have a great day.

my vets here suck so much i almost would move to minnesota!

Best wishes to you & the big orinch boy (with a tortie mom, LOL). That is amazing the vet could tell. Now you will have to take pictures of the "tortie evidence" so we can see it for ourselves! Congrats on finding a vet who sounds great, that is really awesome. Good luck with the dental, that will be cool if it improves his BGs even more.
