Harley is doing great so far! We are still seeing nice numbers between 50-90. I am extending his formal trial a few more days because we did have some other issues that interfered with testing the last few days of his trial. But based on the numbers I have seen the last 24 hours we are still in really good shape!

I must say to any newbies, this is a great resource. I learned a TON and I do believe with their info, resource, help, advice and patience that is what got us OTJ. I certainly hope it is permanent, but at least I know if there is ever a relapse I have a wonderful community for support and education.

Tips to stay OTJ

1. Never feed dry - not even treats. If you change wet food types, be 100% sure the new food is also low carb and same low carb % as your current food. Some cats are very carb sensitive and an increase from 3-6% to 8-10% can spike the BG’s. Don’t feed if you aren’t sure!
2. Weigh every 2 weeks to 1 month to watch for weight changes. Too much of a weight gain can cause loss of remission.
3. Measure blood once a week, indefinitely. You want to catch a relapse quickly. Some people only do checks every 2 weeks to a month.
4. No steroids or oral meds with sugar - remind your vet whenever giving you any medication. Always double check.
5. Monitor food intake, peeing and drinking. If increasing, a sign of losing remission.
6. Regular vet checks for infection such as dental , ear or UTI. And get them treated quick!

If he does fall out of remission you need to be more aggressive and resolve issues/ back on insulin as soon as possible as the window for a second remission is tight if any.

Okay...drumroll...I added another 5 days to his trial (just to be sure) and it does appear Mr Harley has held his own and is OTJ!!
We have even had some nice 40 and 50 numbers.

LOVE the video!! So good to see soooooo many OTJ cats, gives a lot of promise to newbies I hope!!

Mr Harley LOVES water, another thing he's fascinated with is watching it swirl down the toilet when flushed. We would be in deep trouble if he learned to flush it on his own!

Took his once a week BG and he was at 63....we are still in the green (whew, sigh!) :mrgreen:
