The other day I noticed Diamond straining when he was going poo. He was grunting like a toddler.
I checked to poo out by squeezing with my fingers; like any normal person, right? Yes, my hand was in a bag. I’m not that weirdo. :p It was pretty darn hard. I’ve continued to squeeze his poop and it’s still pretty firm.

I add water to everyone’s food. Since I switched all my cats to canned food, the water bowl is pretty much just for show.
Any ideas how to help solve this?

Rufus poop can be pretty hard sometimes too. Im going to try add probiotics to his food. Just dont want him constipated.

I sprinkle a little MiraLax in Dusty's food and mix it in. Otherwise he has the same problem but strains to the point of throwing up. I've been using it for several years with no issues. Just a sprinkling in each meal. Each cat is different so just adjust the amount so it's not too soft or hard.

My young ones have hard poop probably because they eat raw food. I add a little pumpkin to their food. With Max I did use Miralax.

Psyllium husk fiber also works to soften the poops. You want to get the plain kind, no dyes or sugars added, just pure psyllium husk fiber.

My civie Dancer gets 1/8 teaspoon Miralax (generic is fine) in the am mixed in her food, plus 1/8 teaspoon psyllium husk fiber in the am and pm feedings. I add 1 tablespoon of extra water in with the canned food. You'll need to experiment a bit to find what works best for your cat.
