I boiled an egg tonight - scooped out the yellow & added it to Sadi & Baby's canned - they ate it.
Can I do this often - or is this a treat saved for occassionally?
They both eat canned, so they do not need the egg to entice them.

1 large egg yolk is 54 calories - mostly fat, some protein, very little carb.

They are high in phos so you would not want to do this with a CKD patient. (kidney issues)

Also, it is an unbalanced food by itself so, as with any unbalanced food (plain meat, etc.), you would like to stick to no more than ~15% of total daily calories.

If a cat is eating ~200 calories/day....15% of 200 would be 30 calories or ~ 1/2 of an egg yolk.

So....if a cat got 1/2 of a yolk/day, I would not lose any sleep over that - as long as they were eating the other BALANCED part of their diet well.

Given that most people are not going to eat hard boiled eggs every day.......whenever you feel like giving them an egg yolk - go ahead and do it.
