I have not been tracking him on the spreadsheet. I wanted to post bc when i stopped posting I just felt I would keep dosing him at his tiny does of .05 and it took a long time but we are here. I no longer feel stressed about him. he’s happy and healthy. And he’s not gotten into any of the dogs or other cats kibble.

unfortunately we have a 12 year old cat she just got diagnosed with ckd. So that’s a journey I never have to navigate

Hi Steven -- congratulations to you and Oreo on a successful remission! Wonderful news!

About CKD, I just wanted to pass along what my vet told me when Chispa was diagnosed in early 2020. He said CKD can plateau at Stage 1 or 2 for YEARS, and that his own cat was diagnosed at age 12 and lived to be 19 without ever progressing beyond Stage 2. I started Chispa on the prescription food made by Hill's and Royal Canin, but both are very high in carbs and may have contributed to her becoming diabetic (unconfirmed, but seems possible to me). I did a ton of reading before switching her over to a non-prescription diet that is low enough in phosphorous to be appropriate for a cat with CKD. Some vets will tell you that protein should be restricted too, but the more current thinking is that it's not necessary or beneficial to restrict protein until the much later stages of CKD.

Here's a list of canned foods ranked in order of phosphorous content:

Hope this is helpful. Best wishes to you and your cats!

That’s great information. It seems she’s deep into stage 3 just gave her, her first IV. Thank your for the food list. I’m going to share Oreos FF with her briefly bc she’s not eating and anytime she had it she’s gobbled it down. Her red blood cells are good and she not anemic. She’s very lethargic and just laying around and drinking a lot of water so I’m hoping we’ll get a little turn for the the better. Meanwhile I research food and have some ready for her to try.

I hope the IV fluids and FF will perk her up and that she will start feeling better before too long. Best of luck as you figure out what works for her.

Very good news on the 2nd remission. Stories like this can give home to other members who's cats have fallen out of remission. Well done. :otj:

Good luck with the new journey. :bighug:. Here's another list of low carb low P foods, the CKD diabetes food list. In case you want something both cats can eat.

I had a 16-year-old cat that was diagnosed with CKD. He stopped eating and was very lethargic. My vet had me give him antacid(mylanta) for 7-10 days I think it was. It binds the phosphorous when they eat. He turned around and lived until he was 18.5. His sister lived until 20.5. You might talk to your vet about using that if your cat doesn't want to eat. Here is a link that talks about it... Aluminum Hydroxide | VCA Animal Hospitals (vcahospitals.com)
