I've been a real mess lately. Family deaths, our oldest cat gone, in Toronto some 13 year old girls swarmed a homeless man and stabbed him to death. Yesterday a cop, first day on the job, shot while helping a car stuck in the storm. I refuse to ignore it and I refuse to let it rule my life.
We were just cleaning out the bedroom and found the last FDMB calendar. My PayPal got screwed up and only because of the kindness of Veronica (
@Veronica & Babu-chiri ) did I get a copy. There were our two boys and we both burst into tears.
Instead of dropping off cheap flowers at the local police station I baked them some cookies. They're really not supposed to accept gifts and especially not food but the young woman took me at my word, accepted my sincerity and then asked if I was okay. I was barely holding it together when she said there was too much goodness in the world to ignore and then I slept like a baby last night. I couldn't hug her through the bullet proof glass.
For every cat hater, dog snob, psychopath and my idiotic family there is something holding us together that defies the hate. Hold on to that, it's all we've got and I'm looking forward to a new year full of frightened new members, kind words and the limited kind of love written words can convey.
