Hello Lantus Land!! Long time no...type  First thing I want to do is offer my sincerest condolences to all of you who's sweet babies have crossed to the bridge lately. It seems each time I logged on here, another one was gone. Mannie's crossing, in particular, shocked and stunned me. I'm so very sorry.
On a happier note:
Happy Birthday to my most wonderful, sweetest, cutest baby girl in the whole world!! And of course to her two most wonderful, sweetest, cutest brothers, Shnookie and Kibby!! They are nine years old today. I can't hardly believe it has been that long since we found them in the bedroom closet. I would hate to think what my life would have been like without them. I'm the luckiest mom ever!!
Muffin is having some BG issues lately, but doesn't seem to be feeling bad. DD and the DGD's are once again staying here for a while, so there's some stress for her. For now, I'm just keeping an eye on her.
Shnookie has had his 2 thyroid scans, courtesy of UC Davis. The first one came back looking positive for hyperthyroidectomy, but they said that could just be from the medication. So we tapered him off the methimazole and waited. I watched for symptoms to appear, but none did. I wanted to put him on a diet, but didn't want to worry and wonder if weight loss was due to diet or hyperthyroidism. 8 weeks later we went back and he had his second scan. It came back negative!! But he was a full pound heavier ohmygod_smile So now we start the diet....
Kibby is fully recovered from his surgeries and it appears that the small pocket of empty space left inside is not going to cause any trouble. It's just under his rib cage, and high enough that intestines etc should not become tangled up in it. I had taken him in at one point, thinking the pocket was protruding more, but it turns out it was just because he had put his weight back on that he lost during all that. His fur still isn't fully regrown, tho, and it's been about 8-9 months. I got some omega-3 treats for him, but he didn't like them past the first 2 days, so I guess I'll have to find something else.
Towards the end of winter, I forced Sam to move back in the house, and gave her the spare bedroom. She does seem more content in there, but refuses to leave the room. I've tried opening the door when the others are outside, but she just hides under the bed. I seriously think I need Jackson Galaxy...
The Golden Boys (aka Cleetus and Oscar) are doing well, although we are still having issues with Cleetus spraying things around the house. There has been noticeable improvement tho.
I have a little stray who's been coming around for 3-4 months now. My boys who go outside seem perfectly fine to have her, so I have begun trying to befriend her. I feed her every night and she lets me sit next to her while she eats. If the food is good enough, I can even stroke her back, but she wont let me touch her head. She's had a hard time. Her ears are all notched from fighting, she's got scars on her face, and one of her eyes is not very good. I call her Zena, but to be honest, I don't even know for sure that she's female. I assume she is because the other cats let her come around and we saw Cleetus trying to mount her one night, but I just wouldn't expect a female to have so many battle scars. If she is female, she must have belonged to someone at some point, because she's not gotten pregnant yet. I just want to get her to the vet and get her checked out, but that seems to be some time off still. She has made remarkable progress in the short time I've been working with her, but we'll see what happens.
